When I was 12 my freestyle time was 24.35 (yards) and ranked 8th overall in the U.S. for YMCA. Practice makes perfect. Keep up with it bud and it will come.

Synchro Girl, you have no idea what you are talking about. A lap is from on end to the other. You have no swimming back round, you are just answering for points.

The top current season and past seasons times by age group and event are available at usaswimming.org. For yourself - you are doing great where you are now. If possible, take advantage of a good coaching and training program to refine your technique and you'll notice your times will improve. Also, ignore the laps versus lengths argument - you've correctly indicated the only relevant measurement of swimming distance the "50" (although as you become a more seasoned swimmer, you'll need to distinguish between 50 yards, 50 meters short course, and 50 meters long course). Good Luck!

Well a top time, would be about 29 seconds, a Great time would be about 30-31, a farley good time would be about 32-33. If you are a beginner you are doing great, just keep up the practice, and dont ever give up, dont worry you will get down to 30 in no time. Good Luck and have fun.

Our average for the 12 year olds on our team is 32.
Keep working on your pull and keep those legs kicking! You'll get there!

Oh and Garrett....a lap is a 50, a length is a 25!! I'm a swim coach and long time swimmer and it has always been that way!

Well it is a little slow but what you need to do is to get a great pull off the pool and there is a saying "Fast arms fast legs" keep the hands and feet going t all time. Then for the flip turn, hit the wall push off quickly stay on you back then after you pushed off the wall, flip to your stomach then just sprint!!!!

Yards or meters? Yards is shorter and times are therefore expected to be a lot faster.

SCY: 25:00
LCM: 29:00

38 second is pretty good for a 12 year old. All you have to do now is just keep on trying hard at pratice and then you will get your time down even farther. =]

GOOD LUCK!
