your best bet is to seperate them

There are many ways to sex a Platy (these sexing methods, by the way, can be applied to all livebearers), but there are two that are more widely used than others. The first method is to observe the shape of the Platy, Females will be longer, and also have wider stomachs (even when not pregnant) than males. The second method (and most accurate) involves observing the three fins on the underbelly of the fish. Female Platy's will have three almost identical fins, two a little further up the belly (closer to the front) than the rear, and with a male, the two frontal fins will be the same, but the aft fin will be much smaller, and pointed

good luck with your problem

See if you can trade your females for some additional males at your local fish store. The females are capable of storing sperm from the males for about 6 months, so that will still mean an additional 5-6 broods (each) even if you separate them by gender today. Having only males is the only way you can be sure you don't get more fry.

they breed so easily that the best thing to do is to have other fish there that will eat the fry, this natural process is your best way of keeping the fish at a sustainable level and it ensures that survival of the fittest is achieved, i had this problem once but then let the fish give birth in the tank naturally, only one or two ever survived to adult hood but there was some fantastic coloured ones that survived,

Best Answer...get a female betta or simular fish that has a mouth big enough to eat the fry. Seperating them will be time consuming, and that means having 2-3 different tanks to house them in.

You could take the adult female to the petstore and SEE if they will take them back...Petco, Petsmart, Walmart, etc. will NOT take them back (or at least the ones in my area won't). "Mom & Pops" stores usually will give you store credit for them though...not more than about $.25-$1 If you are lucky, but that is better than having to flush them...you can get food for the remaining fish that way.

Good Luck!

Sepparate the males from the females, fairly simple stuff... or add some Ghost Shrimp, they will eat the fry or the eggs...

Sex them and separate them into two different aquariums. I'm not sure how to sex platties, but you could find out online or at the pet store.

Have a party give some away in small fish bowls as party gifts -
try to figure male and females separate them or ask a pet store or vet how to tell the difference.
