there is nothing for kids to do anymore, they can not play outside riding bikes, skateboarding, they can not roam around without the scare of rape, kidnapping, or being killed. so when they do find something to do besides drugs, stealing or hanging with a bad crowd why does some people try to take it away?when i was a kid we could stay outtill dark making up games and having a good time. if youw onder why our youth is getting pregnant at 12 or why they are addicted to drugs by 14 this is why . there is nothing for them. our are youth not our future?

sar right, and where i live, its against the law to ride you bike on the roads, skateboard, etc. if you bring your kids to the local park they cant ride because the cement path is the walkway fro the elderly, there are no youth groups such as the ymca. no arcades, nothing its a sahme we can spend thousands of dollars to put up a park where the kids cant play. insane to me

It's not us taking away everything. It's the parents. If people actually instilled values into children these days they would not be getting pregnant at such young ages or be addicted to drugs. If a parent is being a parent the children can play outside, because the parent should be there keeping an eye on the child. The parent would also be pro-active in the neighborhood with other parents to ensure that the safety of their children was there.
The media also plays a part. Everyday another actress is having a child out of wedlock and it doesn't matter, everyone is happy about it. So the girl seeing that thinks that that's how it is in the real world and then finds out that she is terribly wrong. Songs are glorifying the gangster life style. Celebrities are getting skinnier and skinnier, setting impossible standards for those idealizing them.
Many factors play into this and it's sad that people don't acknowledge it all.

Media scare tactics....Really if you look at the statistics there are no more child kidnappings or rapes nowadays than there were 30 years ago. However, what we do have now is a sensationalist media which loves to report all the negativity in the world and affect peoples lives. Parents buy into this hype and become overprotective of their children.
Personally, I let my kids do everything I did when I was younger. Really I feel my kids are safer than I was for many reasons:
I care enough about my kids to work hard enough, make great money and I am able to live in a very nice safe gated neighborhood.
My kids have GPS enabled cell phones where I can go online and see exactly where they are at any time.

Really, I agree with you....some parents need to lighten up, stop letting media hype run your lives and let your kids go out and run around before they become fat tubs of lard.

fine points all. kids can still have good clean fun as long as there are parental controlls. the horror stories are very much the exception rather than the rule. there's a bigger chance they will be hit by lightning than getting kidnapped or worse.

Umm... There is plenty to do. I dont know what the hell you are talking about sister. Kids are getting into sex and drugs early because well, that's the way it's always been. My mom tells me she's been drinking since she was 12. Things haven't changed.

The taking away of things does not cause drug addiction or teen pregnancy, it is the lack of parental oversite and peer pressure coupled with immaturity and inexperience that helps fuel these problems

I know right, my mom won't let me go to my friends without knowing their parents or the people living in the house. She thinks they'll do something to me, but I doubt it. kids our age can handle things by our self. Were really mature for our age. I'm 15 and I can watch for my own self. I can do things on my own. =)

I question parenting more then society. There are many more single parents raising kids and working jobs. Less time for parenting.
