I am going to France to visit my property and would like to gain more knowledge about the rail connections from Girona to Perpignan, and then local connections to Villefranche. Can anyone help? Where do trains stop enroute? Where do I find more information about times and costs?

From Girona Airport, look for
Barcelona Bus,
they have hourly service at half past every hour from the airport to Girona's train station, (25 minutes)where there are at least 2 direct fast trains a day from
Girona to Perpignan
9.55 am to 11.42
5.48 pm to 7.33 pm
There are other trains from Girona to Port Bou, at the Fr/Es border, where you can walk through the train station to Cerbere, France and have frequent trains to Perpignan.

Villefranche? There are 5 or 6 of them, like Villefranche de Lau, Villefranche sur Saoen, VF de Mer, ...

I've done Chicago to Baltimore on that amtrak line. It's nice, lots of nice scenery through Appalachia and it's fun if you're with someone. But it's loonnng. I had a friend who was delayed 24 hours going from nyc to chicago. That's what's no fun about amtrak. I used to take the chicago to indianapolis train all the time, and it's only four hours or so, but we'd regularly get delayed at least one or two, sometimes as long as six. Have fun, though. Amtrak is a great way to get somewhere if you want a relaxed trip. I've also gone from Indianapolis out to San Francisco a couple times, which is cool as well, you get to go through the rocky mountains and it's beautiful.
