The red devil will get about the same size

The person at the pet store said the Red Devil would mess with the Oscar rather than the Oscar messing with the Red Devil

Who knows??

I also have Oscar's and have found that Kisser fish get along with them. In fact my Oscar's don't mess around with the Kisser's I think they are more aggressive then the Oscar's. Plus they are cool to watch, they actually do kiss each other, and they are pure white really pretty. So i would suggest Kisser fish, but close to the same size as your Oscar's.

The red devil will eventually take over. Hopefully you have a large enough tank to house both of these fish along with the 3rd fish that you are thinking of getting. The smaller the tank is, the more aggressive the fish will be to eachother. If you have the room, a flowerhorn cichlid is about the same temperament as a Devil. Maybe slightly more aggressive, but they should be compatible. The flowerhorn, Devil and oscar all get ABOUT the same size, Oscars probably being just a little bigger. Jaguar cichlids are ok with devils, but kinda questionable with the oscar. Not a safe choice. Good luck.

Oscars and Red Devils are tricky. You can always put Oscars and other larger fish in a tank with other fish that are about the same size, but you need to make sure that those fish will grow as large as the Oscar. If you put a species in there that is currently 2 or 3 inches, and in a year when your Oscar is 8 inches and the other fish is still only 5 inches, you're going to have a problem. And, if you are going to add fish, make sure there are lots of hiding places in your tank. Oscars and Red Devils are very territorial and will want to hide away from other fish, so make sure all of your fish have plenty of room to hide and cover themselves. But, please remember that whatever size tank you have them in need to be large enough to fit several fish that can get up to a foot long! Hope this helps!

really you shouldnt put anytihng else in that tank oscars get very large and since being that size they also produce a large bioload and they need there swimming room. you can put a small school of silver dollars in with the oscar but i wouldnt recommend the red devil if you get to much bioload in there then you will be doing water changes a couple times a week depending on your nitrates .

but the school of silver dollars would work probably the rule about only fish that are bigger than an oscar is crap..... i know for the mot part if the oscar cant fit it in his mouth he really isnt gunna really mess with it and just in case you should have some cover for the other fish

and the most important point is all fish are different your oscar might be different than mine andit really really varies so trial and error is the best bet

good luck with your problem

You don't have any room for any more fish. Oscars get 18 inches and Red Devils get about 10 inches. By the time your fish are about halfway grown, their will be terrible fighting if you try to add any other fish. They will eat any fish they can fit in their mouths, and there is no more room for additional big fish.

Your Oscar and Red Devil will fight eventually and the RD will kill the Oscar. Cichlids do NOT mix well, they are very territorial and their territories are naturally bigger then your entire tank. Cichlids like these, if they are kept properly by competent fish owners, are kept in species tanks, sometimes with select NON-cichlid tankmates.

In my experiences, you are just taking a chance by putting other fish with Oscars. They are going to be territorial no matter what. But as time passes and they grow along with the other fish, it's usually not a problem.

No the red devil will treat them as feeder fish. I've tried this with cichlids before and they are not compatible.

there aren't any fish you can put in with them that will be safe, they'll probably try to eat each other. i asked the guy at the pet store once and he said that the only thing you can put in with an oscar would be a fish that is bigger than it, because it won't mess with fish bigger than itself
