I am going to Las Vegas in October to celebrate my 21st birthday. I have never been there before and I'm not sure about anything. I just want help with the following
-where to stay (I love action, do I want to stay on the strip?) we probably will not go back again for a while so price is really not an issue
-when to book (we are not going until October, when will I get the best rates on both airfare and hotel)
-what is there to do (obviously gamble, but I want to know the best places to go for dining, gambling, shows, etc.)

Book early to get the best rates. Like start looking now and book as soon as you find something you like. I stayed at the Orleans. I loved this place. It was not on the strip but they had by far the nicest rooms for the best price. They also had a free shuttle that took you to the strip. Its not far from the strip at all.
You say that price is not an issue but if you go there and spend a lot on a room once you get there you will regret it and wish you saved your money on the room and used it to spend there. Theres so much shopping and things to do.
Rent a limo to take you from the airport to the hotel. Its only about $55 each way and you feel like royalty doing it.
Eat at the Stratosphere. Its an amazing experience. Its expensive but the food is great and worth it. Make reservatiosn. Arrive early theres tons to see there. The view is amazing from 1600 ft in the air.
Ride the roller coaster on top of New York New York its a crazy experience especially if you have never ridden a roller coaster thats on top of a building roof.
Go to Fremont street its worth seeing
Set a limit on how much u will spend each day so your not broke by the end of the first day
Bring shoes you can walk in. The casinos are huge and there's a lot to see. You will be walking a lot
Take as much advantage as you can of the free drinks. make sure you tip the waitresses though $1 is customary,
Make sure you stop by Treasure Island and check out the bartenders they do some really cool tricks.

If price isn't an issue, stay at the Bellagio or Wynn right on the strip. These are really nice hotels, if you stay at the bellagio room with a fountain view, it'll be great. There are lots of things to do besides gambling. Each hotel has its own theme and you can walk all the hotels and check them out as each is different. There are tons of shopping in Vegas. YOu can walk the strip at night and enjoy the lights. There are tons of nightclubs to go to and lounges. YOu can even go to RedRock national park for a bit of nature, or Hoover Dam. Vegas is a great place to ring in the 21st bday. Try all the yummy buffets. Have fun!

Las Vegas is probably the most exciting and entertaining town on the planet and with hotelbye you may find out more. Nowhere otherwise on the planet you may find an area that has most of the journey amenities that merely a total resort location can offer: luxurious casino hotels, fine eating, wonderful live activity and state-of-the artwork tradition and business show facilities. Las Vegas happens to be a spectacular city and anything that you would expect from a world-class town, and more, is below for your travel pleasure. One of the areas you must visit in Las Vegas may be the Fremont Street, a pedestrian region with a myriad of special sites.

OK...book early. Travelocity and Expedia both seem to give decent rates. If you're not sure about the pricing, you can purchase the travel package insurance. It will allow you to cancel and/or change your reservations with only a small fee.

We JUST got back from LV. Stayed at Ceasers...wasn't impressed with much other than the location. We stayed at Treasure Island last time...LOVED IT! Will stay there from now on. At TI, no matter if your playing the $10 tables or the high-roller room, they respect you AND your money.

There's clubs...I HIGHLY recomment Studio 54 @ MGM. Most definately have to do Fremont Street at night. Cheap gambling, free shows and best of all...FREE DRINKS!

As for shows go to Penn & Teller, The Amazing Jonathan, Mystere' and/or Ka. Best shows around.

DO NOT eat or drink inside the casinos unless you don't mind paying $4-8 for a bottle of water or $8.99 for a slice of pizza. Eat at the places on the strip or just off the strip.

If coming in the warmer weather I would suggest Mandalay Bay. They have a fantastic pool. The Venetian is really nice and their rooms are suites so you are in real luxury. However the Luxor is real nice. You might try Planet Hollywood. They are just finishing up a total remodel from the Aladdin and I hear nothing but good things about them. If you want to stay off the strip you might like the Rio. The Palms is geared more for the singles crowd and more of a party atmosphere. Stay away from Circus Circus. Too many kids there. Stratosphere, Sahara and the Riviera are too far up the strip and seem to be out of the action. A good favorite is the Mirage. Not crazy about their pool and TI doesn't have a pool and you have to go to the Mirage to use theirs. Just some things to think about. Have fun .. you won't be in your room too much while here. Too much to see and do.

I'd make my reservations in the the central strip area. Any of the mega resorts will be fine for you to start your Las Vegas experience. Bellagio, Caesars Palacy, Bally's/Paris, Flamingo, Harrahs, Venetian or Treasure Islands are all great locations.

When you land or check in, look for the tourist booklets on what to do and see in Las Vegas. You can always check on line to see what acts, shows, buffets each has to offer, but the booklet has everything nicely packaged for reference.

If you are going to gamble, most resorts have classes that teach you the basics, otherwise, you can always ask the dealer or attendant for instructions. Each resort or chain of resorts have gambling clubs where your earn comp points for free meals, shows, hotel stays, etc. Personally, I prefer Harrahs since Harrahs runs Caesars Palace, Flamingo, Ballys/Paris, Rio in addition to the Harrahs hotel in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Tahoe/Reno, etc. Their points can be used at any Harrahs location.

Treasure Island is a great location and has a good comp system. It's also right across from Fashion Mall, the biggest and most unique mall in Las Vegas.

There's tons of things to do and see so pace yourself and have fun.

Las Vegas is a great palce to have your 21st,

1.i would suggest staying at a hotel near the strip-----DO NOT SPEND A LOAD OF MONEY ON A ROOM get the cheapest room possible at a busy hotel.......try the sunset station http://www.sunsetstation.com/hotel/ ......it's a wonderful hotel....with theater, fatburger, krispy creme, anything you name it they got it, IT"S AMAZING. it's very clean, my favorite to sleep at.---keep in mind, your probly not going to be in your room allday, so you don't have to splurge...and it's only about 10 minutes away from the strip.

2.look frequently on the net now for booking, sales are all year, but preferably your going at a great time, so i would check end of july, august.--look at southwest's fairs

3. there are actually great clubs, diners INSIDE the hotels....look at the MGM shows...but they have them all over the place.....Harrah's is you best bet for winning gambling.....but also inside the hotels are casino's that run all night allday......
there are tons of great nightclub's such as studio 54, pussycatdolls lounge, pure nightclub http://www.purethenightclub.com/, a celebrity favorite :]

hope you find this helpful :]

Since you have plenty of time, I would explore this web site for things to do. You should be able to find plenty of things to do and places to go. Click on all the various tabs and links as there is a wealth of information here.

By the way, I have twice booked packages to Vegas through this site and both times have come up with a package cheaper than any other site I tried (and I tried them all - Orbitz, expedia, kayak, etc). Booking through here took me to USAirwaysVacations.com but I could get a better deal through here than going to the US Airways site directly.

You might also try LasVegasadvisor.com, but I like the one below better.

Try a package deal from www.allegiantair.com if they fly your market.
The pool in Mandalay Bay has a poker table in the water and a surf pool. Downside is its all the way at one end of the strip. Bellagio if you want to be in the middle of the action.
Pool Bar there is fun too. Its cheap in August but really really hot.
If you're walking stop at Patio Daddio's they have mist machines that spray you while you're drinking.
Have fun!
