I don't like Malafix personally. After many, many tries I have never seen it actually cure any disease. I know of many good medications, but it will depend on what you are treating before I can make a recommendation.

I love all the products Aquarium Pharmaceuticals make. They are good-quality, cheap, and are easy to use. Personally, every time I have used either their Pimafix or Melafix the fish is cured rather quickly, but this is for more mild diseases. In your case, you might try a stronger and more disease-exclusive medicine combined with a good skin regenerant like Stress Coat from API and perhaps Aquarium Salt to reduce stress and make breathing easier, and therefore recovery easier.

Melafix is a very mild antibacterial that will do nothing for any real problems like the one you are talking about. You need a real medication for fin rot and, it seems for ich. And you had best figure out why he got these things, because prevention is the best cure and these problems are more common then they should be and with 3 different diseases there's something seriously wrong with your bettas home.

IMO the best med. for popeye is Fungus Clear. I didn't type in the wrong name lol - yes, Fungus Clear, the $5 med. from Jungle Labs you can get at your local Wal-Mart. When I rescue popeye bettas this is my med. of choice because it works so well. Never rescued a popeye goldie, but I've had a great results with bettas. Might be worth a shot. I too do not like adding salt for popeye bettas. Just sounds like it should be painful, doesn't it?

First off, what are his symptoms? Melafix is for gram positive bacteria, Pimafix is for gram negative bacteria (which is what most issues in fish are)...they treat open sores and such...if it is internal, they will not help.

Listing symptoms would help.

Here is a forum I am a member of...we have a lot of people that have Betta, and that have kept fish for a long time...ck it out (you have to join to post though).

if you look at the ingredient for bettafix and melafix, both actually have the same active ingredient (Melaleuca). bettafix contains 1% of Melaleuca and melafix contains 10%. so they are basically the same.

melafix works for my fish sometimes. it's only good for fins, but it doesn't help when treating fish disease.
