America was founded by people who did not care what others thought, otherwise they would have stayed at home, conformed and done whatever the European ruling class of the day wanted them to do.
America will cease being America if we care what essentially evil people in Europe think. Let it not be forgotten that the "Green" who was the foreign minister in the German government until 2005, and who attacked America - Joschka Fischer - was closely allied with the Baader-Meinhof gang, the PLO in its more vicious days, the Red Brigades and so on. There are photographs of his beating police in demonstrations in 1973.
As to the French, they are all Robespierres now, or at least Napoleons, and it was Lenin who correctly described his Russian revolution as a continuation of the French Revolution.
Both the First and Second World Wars in their European theaters at least, would have been avoided, if the Austrians had won the Austro-Prussian War in 1866 OR the French had won the Franco-Prussian War in 1870, both wars in which the Prussians fomented the trouble, but technically did not start the wars.
American doughboys and GIs have had to shed blood on two occasions last century to stop these fools from destroying Western civilization, under the influence of what appears to have been little more than Satanic cults - National Socialism and Communism.
Why on Earth would we take any notice of these fools?
One thing is certain - if they tell you the right answer is "black", it is a good hunch that it is "white".

Of course we care about the world. In this day and age where international trade and globalization is on the front burner of the business and political world, not caring about other countries will be a downfall. The USA is engaged in a lot of international activities weather it be armed forces, or humanitarian work. The people who say that the USA doesn't care about the world are the ignorant ones. Sure, USA may have their priorities as first helping their own country and people and then others when it comes to treaties or any other international dealings, but what country puts a different nation in front of their owns?

The very attitude that you state is the reason that we are having problems with "terrorists". We have for a long time thought that we have the ultimate power and that we can do anything and say anything that we want. We have been terrorists in the mind of most third parties for decades. We have killed people, captured others with out any regard to their rights.
We are a country with a role in the world. We deserve the right to run our country as we see fit. We have the right to comment on other countries as they affect ours. We have the right to defend our country. But we do not have the right to invade other countries either openly or through our terrorist organizations such as the CIA and their paid agents.
The comment about media that lie certainly is also true about our country's news media. But it is also true about our country's elected officials.
We had better care because that is what causes people to come to our country in defense of their country/religion.

France and Germany are MORE US friendly. Chirac and Schroeder were very anti US.
Besides, just because the politicans give the US spiel it doesn't mean the people of the countries like you. Blair absolutely worshipped Bush - yet public opinion of the US in the UK is not very high, many UK people are very anti-US.
Of course you don't HAVE to care, but then you can't complain when other countries refuse to co-operate with you and burn US flags in the streets.

Does it make a difference to you if people in other countries want to fly planes into your buildings? Does it make a difference to you if other countries are planning to detonate a dirty bomb in one of your largest cities? Does it make a difference to you if showing your American passport to the locals while traveling abroad could endager your life? If you answered "no" to all these questions, then you shouldn't care what others think of the USA. If you actually cared about the American people, then you d*mn well better care, care a great deal.

We have to. We are a part of a global community. Other opinions and how we deal with other countries effects our economy and how Americans are treated worldwide. We will always be dependent on other countries for something - the trade deficit in china right now is a good example of that. Better to have more friends than enemies.

Clearly, the liberals don't care what others think of us. They definitely do not care anything about the Iraqi people. "Pull out and let them deal with al-qaida"--now that's the spirit.

I agree 100%
The lesser nations of the world should learn their place. They have no business criticizing their betters.
When they can place men upon the Moon and bring them back to Earth, then maybe they can be in our league.

Yes, we should set an example, uphold the Geneva Convention, show that America cares about it's own people as well as others around the world.
