i think that Al Shaparton [dont know how to spell his name] overstepped his bounderies by requesting that all black people be called african americans...i think that it is ridiculous. not all black people have their ancestry from there, some have been here for generations and are mixed with other races...i dont if it's jsut me here...what do you think?

You are right. I am not fully African and i think it would be more accurate to call people like me Black american..whites are white americans so why all of the PC?

In this case we are dealing with overboard PC rules.

Also i dont think that white people should get off the hook in dening that we are all related ..black people are different shades and have so many european or caucasian features that i believe that every black american has at least one white american in their heritage. interesting but if you say we are ALL african means that people can create even larger racial barrier.

Grab an african and put me side by side with him you will notice that the only similiarity is that we both have darker skin..thats it!

It's not just you.

I see your point and know people who support it and who don't. I think its up to each person to decide how they want to be addressed. You are never gonna have a 100% perfect term for such a diverse group of people.

I don't mind being called white, but I hate being called caucasian and the idea of being called a euro-american is way to PC for me.

Sharpton is just a blowhard who likes to make waves... i think he gives other civil rights activists a hard time because he is so controversial and many times divisive, but that's just my 2 cents.

I agree, actually most can't trace their ancestry back past their grandparents. They are just Americans, none were born in Africa anyway.

I think your correct. You can be an american of any decent, but why does it have to be part of how people reference you? besides, if your like me, I'm part Irish, scottish, english, and God knows what all. Guess I'd be a Heinz57 american right??
