Not one or the other, it's the whole ensemble. If you see a woman with a cheap jacket and nasty shoes with scraped up heels and then a Coach bag you know she probably bought it used on EBay. A well put together woman has the whole thing going on and other well-to-do women know it and they can spot the posers just as quick.

I don't give a sh*t what kind of bag or shoes she has. If she can keep up with me on an intellectual basis, that is all that matters. I suppose because I'm a scientist, all I really care about regarding those items is whether or not they are functional. (Are people so shallow and small minded as to make a judgment based on labels? I personally think it's ridiculous to waste a lot of money on an item simply because it is "designer". Do you need to fit in that badly? Are you that insecure?)

Both, because I need some point of comparison; if a woman has an expensive bag and cheap shoes, then that says more about her than if I would only focus on one. Cheap-cheap combo and expensive-expensive combos are obvious that she either has money, doesn't, or prefers to spend her money elsewhere. Cheap-expensive could mean anything, like the handbag may be a knock-off.....

But I also look at the whole package; if a woman is put together with style, then the price/quality of her bag and shoes doesn't matter

You're kidding, right? Most women I know, myself included, lead interesting busy lives. Who the hell has time to "size up" other women, let alone by purses or shoes?

And people wonder why women are still struggling for equality and respect...

Neither, for me- I just kind of take it all in and size them up by their overall style. Labels mean less than nothing to me- I'm actually much more impressed by a woman who looks fabulous in a 9-dollar dress from Ross. Anyone can look good in a $1500 dress and $500 Manolos- it takes true style to pull off bargain-basement stuff and look totally chic doing it.

Depends on which stand out the most. I tend to judge most harshly if the bag and the shoes don't match. To me this indicates a real lack of planning on the part of the person before she went out in public.

Hmmm... I'd have to say shoes.

Conductorbrat: Matching shoes and bag is a *huge* fashion faux pas, unless the shoes and the bag are black.

Oh, and FYI, I judge men on what they wear as well - I'm an equal opportunity judger. ;)

Oh women size each other up alright, well known fact.

We'll see a woman and say to ourselves....omg....girlfriend is not wearing those shoes with that skirt.
Men see that same woman and say to themselves...omg....If only I could get up under that skirt.
We are the fashion police. lol

Shallow ones do. Personally I size up a person by who they are. Meaning the way that they present themselves to me and the kind of person that they are. I hate superficial people that judge you by the name on your clothes or the car that you drive. It just represents ignorance.

yes they do, sad but true...most women have a tendency to think more of you by the name brand of your purse and your shoes... sometimes the boobs too...lol...it is true!
