There is this retarded kid at school who has this crush on me. At first it was cute, but now he seriously is annoying me. He follows me around and stands by my classes and drools. His aide thinks it's cute and lets him. I want him to leave me alone! He is constantly trying to hug me and give me flowers. How do I get him to back off without looking like a brat?

Sounds to me like you need sensitivity classes. . . . .

Think of him and treat him like what he is--a human being with feelings, likes, and dislikes--just like you. Talking with his aide about how you feel and asking for help in changing the situation is a good idea. You could also try telling him directly (and kindly) what you want. This a situation that really calls for you to muster whatever maturity you have to deal sensitively with a person who lacks your mental capacity, but who obviously has feelings. You need to be firm but gentle. This is not necessarily an easy situation to correct. Set some reasonable boundaries. He needs to learn that it is never ok to hug anyone who does not want to be hugged. Telling him you don't want him to hug you is reasonable. Telling him not to bring you flowers is reasonable. Telling him to never speak you you seems unreasonably harsh. You should be courteous and kind to him, but it is not necessary for you to tolerate excessive attention from him.

The phrasing of your question demonstrates an amazing lack of sensitivity, but I do sympathize with the idea that a constant intrusion into your life can be annoying. He isn't able to judge appropriatenss or develop complex social skills, so you need some help. Talk to your school counselor. Back off your "retard" stance and tell your counselor you need their help in getting him to learn more appropriate behaviors. You may have to set a schedule for him, like he can talk to you 3 times a week, and let him keep a record of it. If he doesn't he might forget. Your actions in this are going to tell a lot about you. You can invoke cruelty to push him away, or you can help him learn from this with kindness. I hope you choose the right one.

You kind of are a brat with the headline you wrote. It's not HIS fault. However, I agree that you should talk to the aide and have her keep him away from you. Just don't be a ***** to the boy. I am sure he gets teased enough as it is.

Your choice of words are worrying in this modern day - it really is an offensive way to desribe another individual. The fact that you thought it cute to begin with and you have changed how you feel - personally then i think it is up to you to re-set the balance. If this young man has difficulties socialising he will need to be handled with sensitivity. Speak to his mentor.

First off, wash your mouth out with soap for even using that word! Then say Thank You God for blessing me & making me whole in mind, body, and spirit!

Speak with his teacher or teacher's helper, explain the situation in a more sensitive manner than that which you did here.

Try to see things from his point of view. Can you even comprehend living daily life like he does? It is hard to understand why you are not like everyone else, why people make fun of you & call you names, and how not to break down in front of everyone because they hurt your feelings!

Think before you speak!

Tell his Aide that it is making you uncomfortable, and you want him to stop. If they ignore your request, then I would go to the Principal and tell him about it. If it gets to that point, the Aide should be punished for allowing sexual harrassment to take place.

1st of all don't call them retards, its rude and makes you look ignorant. Talk to his aide and tell him/her that you are getting really annoyed and mad and don't want to hurt his feelings and if they don't talk to him he will get hurt when you eventually tell him what you think of him in the hallways in front of everyone. If they are a decent aide they will do something about it.
