what do they need to do to have wildcard chance?

You can never count them out. They have the money to go out and get someone to help. They are also the most storied franchise in sports history, they did not get that way by not being able to come back. Look at the 93 Braves and tell me they have no chance.

Sure, it's possible, just not if you are talking about 2007.

They have NOTHING to trade for. They don't want to give up Hughes and he is the guy someone will want.

So, what would you, as a likely Yankee fan, want?

For them to continue to trade the few good guys they have in the minors for a "chance" to make the wild card and then lose?

Or suck it up, trade off Abreu and Damon and actually GET prospects back to fill those holes.

Why is so important to get into the playoffs every year if you are simply doing more and more damage to your chances the following years.

If you were really a fan, you would look at the big picture and sacrifice 2007.

Have you ever heard of the Pythagorean win/loss record? It is determined from a team's runs scored and allowed and the record a team has is usually within 3 games of that.

According to Baseball-Reference.com, the Yankees have a Pythagorean record of 49-36, which is 7 games better than their actual record. Boston has a Pythagorean record of 52-35, which is 1 game worse than their actual record, though many Red Sox players have underachieved thus far (Manny and Ortiz are having off years, Matsuzaka hasn't been dominant yet, Lester hasn't returned to the major leagues yet).

The Yankees will probably come out of the All Star Break red hot and get back into the race for the Wild Card, though they won't catch Boston, as Boston's yet to play its best baseball.

One game under .500 and people are ready to count them out. That just beats me.
Sure, they have hope. The only problem is that owner George Steinbrenner hasn't absorbed the message yet that pitching is a small but important part of the game. They could easily win their division out right, but they haven't won a World Series yet this century because: they don't have the pitching.
Look for them to add 2 more great hitters before the deadline. They'll win the division or the wild card and them be eliminated in the first round of the playoffs again.

Hope springs eternal, Yankee fans should never give up. Stranger things have happened and I would say there is a ray of hope, a light at the end of the tunnel, a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Don't ask me exactly how it might happen but I am sure there is a way. Now, doesn't that sound a lot more encouraging than, "it ain't going to happen?"

Does a bear crap in a house? Does a mouse intimidate a cat? Does Michael Kay make any sense? Did Britney really make a video? Where can I get it? Aha!!!.....But Roger Clemens did come out of retirement! Here's the real secret to them getting in to the postseason......they need to win....and everyone who's better needs to lose.....hope that helps.
