I don't get it, Chimpy, how is it biting the hand that feeds us? Walmart pays slave wages and offers no affordable health insurance do many have to go on welfare and medicare even though they are full time workers. They're basically using the government that we pay for with our tax dollars to subsidize for what they should be paying to their workers themselves. To add insult, they are huge and successful--they can most afford to pay their workers fair wages and provide health coverage, but they rather have us do it for them to maximize their profits!!!

Great "new" avatar, by the way!

I saw a lot of ignorant statements that Walmart drives out small business. Here is a personal observation I lived about 5 miles from a flea market plaza that was pathetic.

Walmart came in and bought the land erected a Superwalmart 2 more plazas open across the street and five new restaurants in close proximity the area was transformed because of walmart sorry I see mostly positives, but negative people will only see negative.

Because, Walmart was born in America but has chosen to leave America in the dust rather than pay extra and support the system that supported them for so many years.

Walmart only has Walmart's interests in mind, so why should we as Americans support such a company?

And no, it isn't biting the hand that feeds. I neither shop at Walmart nor do I shop at any of its sister companies.

Biting the hand that feeds you? Walmart employs illegal immigrants, they under pay their workers and give them no benefits. Walmart was the defendant in the largest class action lawsuit in US history for not promoting women to management positions. They forbid their workers from organizing. When Walmart moves into a community they do not care how they affect traffic patterns or local planning for growth. They usually destroy the local business base. Walmart sells defective Chinese manufactured products for cheap prices. Someone is getting rich off of all this exploitation.

Almost anytime a Walmart is built is America, it forces small business to close because they can't compete with Walmart's prices. People that have owned family businesses for many many years are suddenly finding it hard to bring in business and be a sucessfully profitable.

Those who protest Walmart, shopping there or dealing with them do so for some very good reasons. First, it is dreary and demeaning. Often dirty, confused and out of stock on whatever you need. The employees are clueless or apathetic,
possibly because they realize that they are a cog not an individual. Products are often poor quality or out of fashion.
Finally, the parking lots are huge, filled with fat low class Joe sixpacks and their ugly children.

No it is not biting the hand. Walmart is the majority contributor to the vast majority of the United States completely suspending their relationship with quality, class and good taste. Because so many people flock to those pits, and more people flock behind them, American consumerism has rock-bottomed as far as any demand for quality is concerned. As long as people continue to shop in those places, they will look, sound, act and think - cheap- not classy. Its ridiculous that our nation has sunk so low that people believe that unendurable plastic crap is normal and acceptable. I would not walk into a Walmart if someone paid me. It wouldn't be worth the chemical bath I'd have to pay for later to get the cheap grime off of my person.

Walmart has put the little store owners out of business.

Many who were owners of shops and small stores have lost customers and can not compete against a large super store such as Super Walmart. it is like they hold the cards and when there is no competition in the market then they have full control over what prices they will charge later on. It maybe convient and cheap now..but late could be the only store and we would then have to pay their outrageous prices.

I thought about this along time and I think Walmart is one of America's best businessess.

Whatever is slammed, is true with EVERY CORPORATION.

The only thing that is different is that Walmart doesn't gouge us with high prices and THE AMERICAN GREED.

I "seriously" would like to subcontract ALL of America out to Walmart. and dump the greedy corrupt government we currently have.

America would be so much better off.

Actually, it's the other way round. Americans are so short sighted that they think cheap goods help the economy. What they fail to realize is that most of Walmart's suppliers are now the Chinese. This transfers American cash to the Chinese, and Americans who used to have jobs making things WalMart purchased have been driven out of business by WalMart buying overseas.

When WalMart comes to town, they drive out local business, and the more successful they are, the more they drive out National American businesses. The National income of the US is decreasing (per capita, adjusted for inflation) mainly because of WalMart, and companies relocating overseas because of pressure from outfits like wallmart..

WalMart is making America a poorer nation. It's cheaper for you NOW, with your nice little job in manufacturing, but WalMart may drive the business you work for out of business. What are you going to say then?

Ron.

Not all Americans protest against Wal-Mart. What you hear are labor union's constant frustrations that they can't get into the stores to control things. Wal-Mart, as far as I am concerned is a fine (privately owned) company that offers better values to its customers than union run businesses. I belong to a union, not by choice, and all they do for me is collect my dues, protect those who should be fired, and do nothing but support the Democratic party. Long live Wal-Mart.
