I agree with the answerer above about reputation, but there are some other questions that are of equal importance. Are the technicians licensed, bonded and insured? They are in your home with complete access to your belongings. What is included in the price being quoted? Many people are given estimates which do not include pre-spotting, stairs, moving furniture, etc. only to discover that upon completion of the job the actual bill is much higher than the quote or estimate. Finally, check out the Better Business Bureau for complaints. The carpet cleaning industry unfortunately has been plagued with scammers and fly by night entreprenuers because it is an easy and inexpensive business to start up. Also, does the service include scotchguarding? If you have recently replaced your carpet, check the manufacturer's warranty and cleaning instructions. Some manufacturers specify cleaning proceedures to not void their stain warranty and not following them means that you will not have coverage should the carpet fail to perform in the future. Some carpet cleaning methods remove the manufacturers stain blocking and preventing chemicals, so ask about what chemicals the carpet cleaning company is using. Also, what type of machines are they using, steam or shampoo? If they are using a wet method, how long can you expect the carpet to remain wet. Do they provide protection for the legs of furniture? Many legs of furniture are made of wood which can swell and get water marks if not protected. Some even have metal floor protectors which could rust leaving stains on the wet carpet which are difficult to remove.

I prefer to lick my rugs. I would never let anyone else clean a rug of mine, that's for sure.
