AMD is absolutely totally 100% compatible with Windows, that was an absurdly untrue and ill-informed statement made by the last guy. As for which is better, that tends to go back and forth as each company puts out there newest chips, right now Intel is leading with the Core 2 Duo, but AMD is going to release there new chips soon.

With out getting too technical. the chips use slightly different architecture (chip design). There are endless articles on the internet comparing the two major players Intel and AMD. Basically windows is desgined around and runs 100% on Intel chips. AMD chips run cooler and somewhat faster andin many cases are cheaper. Whoever the AMD chip is not 100% compatabile with many of the drivers for various hardware components used in modern computers, but the number that don't is very small and getting smaller everyday.

Thats extremely similar to the Mac/Windows debate. AMD tends to have slower clock speeds, but are more efficient, while Intel (Pentium's manufacturer) tends to have higher clock speeds but lower front side bus speeds.
