Against...and so is the Constitution by the way.

There are specific rights protected by the Constitution of the United States. What people currently favor, or disfavor should make absolutely no difference whatsoever as to these specific rights. They are protected rights.

We really are watching as many of our rights are being eroded in America. It is good to see a Supreme Court that is inclined to protect those rights as it is moving to now.

I have many guns
got my first BB gun when I was 3
my first 4-10 when I was 8.. so on and so forth
have 8 that I can truly call mine (and a compound bow.. 9 if you count it)

I have no problems with guns and think everyone should be educated on their proper use.

But I also don't think JQ Felon down the street should be able to walk down to the local pawn shop and buy a pistol. And last I checked no one needed a Howitzer on the back of their Jeep.

I'm for reasonable gun control

As long as the criminals are better armed than the police, I feel more comfortable being in a position to return fire. Firearms are a Pandora's box that we can't just close back up and forget about. Even if the world banded together and decided to get rid of all their guns collectively, it would take someone about fifteen minutes to realize that we're now totally defenseless, jury rig a couple hundred weapons, and start the whole cycle over. Gun laws never take weapons out of the hands of criminals, they just make it impossible for a law-abiding citizen to protect himself.

Few people have a machine gun and no one is talking about Machine guns. Most of the debate is directed to guns like the AR 15. Which although it looks like a military weapon but does not work the same. AR 15s and most rifles are semi automatic, meaning that the trigger must be pulled for each shot, this is basically the same way that handguns work. A military weapon, referred to as an assault rifle, as opposed to an assault weapon, is selectable and can fire in a semi automatic mode, a burst mode that fires three or five shots per trigger pull and automatic mode which fires as long as the trigger is pulled.

In between. I am for a person to purchase a gun or weapon, for sport, hunting or self protection. I am against a person owning an automatic weapon, or any other type of weapon that is solely used to kill other people. A fully automatic machine gun, can't be used to hunt squirrels, since 50 or 60 rounds in the squirrel will leave nothing but the tail.

Against. Sometimes we have to protect ourselves, and the cops can't be everywhere. As for the critics of military guns, the Second Amendment was all about military guns. The term "militia" as used in the 2nd Amendment refered to the entire body of men of military age, who were expected to bring their guns with them when they reported for service. If it meant only military units like today's National Guard were to be armed, it would have said "select militia", refering to those who'd already been "selected" for military service. As my brother the cop stated, "The people who are shooting at me are going to have them (guns) no matter how many laws they pass." That's the bottom line, right there. Gun control laws are useless because criminals, by definition, don't obey laws.

If we all had our own guns, the criminals would not be killing innocent people everyday. What kind of system do they have in Canada? If SOMEONE had had a gun the day that freak killed all those college students at Virginia Tech., he could have been stopped way before he killed so many of them.

For, to a certain extent.

I think you should require a license to own a gun, similar to needing a license to drive a car. It at leasts suggests that you knew gun safety rules at some point in your life.

I think people who have used a gun to assist in committing a crime shouldn't be allowed to own a gun, but being a felon shouldn't absolutely prohibit owning a gun (grand larceny with no weapons involved, etc). That makes background checks a requirement to buying a gun.

I think some heavy duty weaponry (machine guns, bazookas, RPGs, etc) should be banned.

I don't think handguns should be banned, although I don't see much use for them by the average person. For a family with kids, they usually provide more of a hazard than a protection.

I am against most forms of gun control but I do see the need for some. Furthermore, I wish they would start enforcing the rules we currently have, much like the immigration issue. More laws that won't be enforced are just a waste of time.

I think if people want a gun and get it legally then they should have that right.

I think the laws should be stronger, with locking them up and permits.

I use to own guns, until I got pregnant 9 years ago. I got rid of them all because I was scared I wasn't responsible enough to have a gun in the house with my kids.
