If you want some eerie pieces, you should look at Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit. It's a collection of 3 piano pieces (that are incredibly difficult, by the way); the 2nd one (Le Gibet) and the last one (Scarbo) are known for being eerie. Chopin's Nocturne Op. 9 No. 1 wouldn't be called eerie, per se, but it does sound sort of sad. Shostakovich's stuff is always rather interesting; a particular favorite of mine is the 3rd movement of his Quartet No. 3. Mussorgsky's "A Night on Bald Mountain" is supposed to describe a witch's sabbath, and Saint Saen's Danse Macabre sounds really cool too.

First, Ave Maria is not eerie. I know eerie pieces for piano like Maurice Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit

The Lacrimosa someone mentioned is probably the one from Mozart's Requiem. Ave Maria is written by Schubert (there is also one by Gounod), and you may want to get a lieder album (lieder means German art song) of Schubert songs. He wrote hundreds and was a genius at this genre. Some songs to look for by him:
Der tod und das Madchen (Death and the Maiden)
Standchen (serenade)
Gretchen am spinrade (gretchen at the spinning wheel)
Erlkonig (the earl king)

Doing superb this night! thank you for asking. i like each and all the variations of Ave Maria. they are all so non violent and airy. i do no longer accept as true with the words, however the music is gorgeous, and that i continually rejoice with listening to Latin sung. i think of I desire the Bach-Gounod one ultimate. as quickly as I taught 2d grade, I used to play quiet instrumental music interior the lecture room. at some point, somewhat fellow positioned his head down on the table and started to cry. i found out that Ave Maria made him think of of his grandpa's funeral. adverse toddler!

You mean like classical music?
Two classical songs that are eerie to me are Lacrymosa and Vere Languoures Nosotros. I don't know who they are by, but it's somewhat like Ave Maria.

I'm not sure you mean "eerie", which means strange and other-wordly--you may mean "haunting", a term often applied to beautiful, lyrical melodies. They stay with you a long time (they "haunt" you) and often have a plaintive (a little sad) quality. However, there are a couple of songs that are both haunting and a little eerie as well:
A water nymph or mermaid sings to the moon:
"The Hymn to the Moon" from Rusalka by Dvorak http://youtube.com/watch?v=1iLqXZHO45o&mode=related&search=
A woman appears who exactly resembles the portrait of a dead woman, and even has a similar name:
"Marietta's Song" from "Die tote Stadt" by Erich Korngold http://youtube.com/watch?v=DsVy7UfhPr0
or with better sound quality

I have to say, the eeriest piece of music I've ever heard (and yet the most beautiful, in my opinion) has to be the Theme from Schindler's List, composed by John Williams and played by Ithzak Perlman. The music sends shivers up and down your spine, what with Perlman's exquisite playing skill. In that one song he can make the Soil Stradivarius truly cry in sadness and pure emotion, and melt the hearts of those who hear it.

I agree w/ Mozart's Ave Verum.
Also, for piano, I've always thought that Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata was very haunting sounding...
