My opinion on the Iraq "conflict"
I am not saying surrender, after all who do you surrender to, I take this very seriously. I think that most people do not understand the situation and what it is doing to America on the world stage. This is not a war with a clearly defined enemy or objective, it is an occupation of political ambition and people are being lost (forever), what I am trying to say is this is not a conflict that is protecting anyone, it is actually causing a thought pattern in the world that will create more animosity towards Americans in general, ie: more new generation terrorists!

I think, like most of the world, you have missed what's happened. Most people fail to recognize that the current Iraqi war is little more than a continuation of the last (Desert Storm). That infact, it was and is about upholding the sanctions of the U.N. brokered cease fire agreement. Unfortunately under the old U.N. leadership, that could not be adequately dealt with due to excessive corruption -- now being addressed. To little, too late in this case.
The final straw determining whether or not to invade was made on the premise of a very REAL threat of WMD. Then Pres. Reagan sold that technology to Saddam Hussein and that prior to Reagan, Pres. Jimmy Carter had gutted the CIA -- leaving this country blind and dependent upon foreign intel services. So, the one "Credible" source of intel, an Iraqi chemical engineer, lied to the German intel. service. The CIA was never allowed to question this individual and so all dealings (question and answer sessions) were by proxy. That individual is still living large on our dime in Germany.
So, the mistakes made pre and post invasion were in not giving full credence to the possibility of Iranian and Saudi political and religious influence and sealing off those borders to minimize that influence. When you ignore the political spin being put on your "news" information and look solely at the facts, you begin to see things in a much different light. Iran stands to gain a great deal by controlling Iraqi oil should the U.S. demoralize and pull out prematurely. Remember, the world economy runs on oil. Even Reagan recognized this when he reflagged the oil tankers passing through the region. And the Saudis stand to lose a great deal should the Iranians take over.
Keeping all of this in mind, I really couldn't care less about what the rest of the world thinks about the U.S.. They will eventually get over themselves. Seventy years ago, the world was praising Adolf Hitler -- enough so that Time Magazine voted him "Man of The Year." Doing what is popular is easy but often fruitless Doing what is right is often unpopular but usually pays big dividends later down the road.
Should the U.S. pull out too soon, you will see a repeat of the Vietnam situation. The Government there will sustain itself for a short while and then will fall. The invading force will take charge and millions of people will be slaughtered. The world economy will then be turned on its ear and the world will then truly have cause to hate the U.S..
Like most Americans, I am not happy about our involvement there and would like to see an end. But seeing the bigger picture (I study history), I know that an immediate pullout is exactly the wrong answer. We must force the current Iraqi government to break ties with both Saudi Arabia AND Iran. It is through that action (alone?) that we will see an end to the blood letting and pehaps then, we will see greater progress. And by the way, you should note that the U.S. news sources never report on the progress being made there. Nor do they give comparisons to historical data to help see things in proper persective. They are infact, pushing an agenda. They are "selling" "news" to a targetted audiance. Until they start telling their viewers the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, we are all damned to trial by media and the circus court of world opnion which is rarely ever based on cold hard fact.

I agree (with you, not the other respondent), and would only add that I don't see how a U.S. military presence in Iraq would stop, or even slow down, any small terrorist cell operating anywhere in the world from attacking the U.S. mainland if they were determined to do so. On the contrary, with so much of our attention focused on Iraq we in the U.S. are that much more vulnerable. But then, I never believed our invasion of Iraq had anything to do with U.S. security anyway. Oil, yes. Revelations, maybe. Security, not

If a fly, or files, get into my house it bothers the h*ll out of me until I kill it. Its easier to kill the little ba*tards when its dark outside because I can turn out all the lights in the house except the one in the hall bath. They come to the light and BLAP, they're dead! Not to use bathroom language here, but Iraq is like that bathroom. Terrorist go there, instead of here, are are killed. ...and that's a good thing that each and every member of our military volunteered to do. May God bless them for their courage.
