I'm interested in controlling everything (tv, lights, ac heater, garage doors, etc) entirely from my laptop (even when I'm away from the house) Is there anyway I can do this?

The X10 company makes some household interface devices that you can use to control various functions from a computer. To control elsewhere, just have a seperate computer running the software, and connect to THAT computer remotely. It doesn't take much in the way of computing power to run stuff like that, so even an old, slow computer is adequate for the task; as long as you can find a way to remote into it (such as Windows XP's remote desktop feature), you're all set.

I use X10's Active Home Pro to create a room-brightening device to help me deal with the long winter nights here in the Pacific Northwest; there are lots of pieces of software out there, depending on what you need to do in YOUR home.

That is beeing tested in the Dream house of the Future through the company of Microsoft. I have seen several documentary films on that subject.

I think if you are really a technical genius nothing is impossible. I believe it's a certain software program that you need to install on your computer.

It will be a very expensive upgrade. As such as you need to completley rewire your electrical system to do such a thing.

Look up at the web site

and go there for instructions. Good luck!
