I'm a bit of a girly reader, I like books I can relate to that have a woman as the main character.
I'm almost finishing The Devil Wears Prada and have recently read things like Tabloid Love, Cents and Sensibility, A Place Called Here (didnt like it), The ***** Goddess Notebook and Kathleen Tessaro's books - brilliant.
So I'm looking for something either similar to these girly monstrosities, or something that you've LOVED and need to share with me.

Little Women, its about a family caught up in the American Civil War and has one of the best family sagas you will ever read and will make you laugh and cry in equal measure and
its as they say a classic. Its been filmed many times and the best version though hard to get hold of starred Katherine Hepburn as Jo the central character who is headstrong, wilful, clever and a tomboy. You should be able to find the book in any good bookstore under classic fiction.

No one has mentioned Jennifer Weiner yet, so I'll put my two cents in for her - she writes smart, funny chick lit (yes, there is such a thing!) - "Good in Bed," "In Her Shoes," (a much better book than the movie), and "Little Earthquakes," as well as a book of short fiction called "The Guy Not Taken." Also, if you haven't already, read some Tom Robbins - he writes great women.

The stephanie plum series by Janet Evanovich. The main character is a hilarious girl who somehow gets into life-threatening situations all the time. She has a smart-alec type of humor. Or else read Bergdorf Blondes--really funny and applicable to girls these days. Also, read He Just Not that into you.

Well I don't like to read girlie girlie books , but my friends do and they liked the Gossip girls series.
One girlie book I love was the Sex and the City Book . It was even better then the show.
Pride and Prejudice is a real girl book too.
Enjoy.

I don't often read girly books, but if you want a very intense book with a female lead, White Oleander by Janet Fitch is one of the best I've read in a long while.

I like books by Barbara Michaels...she usually has a female as the lead character, and they are kind of like romance novels with a bit of a gothic/supernatural twist thrown in (not too much romance though...). My favorites of hers are: Stitches in Time or The Dancing Floor.
