nationality: the status of belonging to a particular nation, whether by birth or naturalization
I would hope the majority of people in the United States were Americans.

Americans are the majority. And any nationality other than Americans are considered the minority. Sorry, but that's the honest answer to your question!

I believe the predominant nationality in USA is American.
If you compare America to Europe, you would find that people from one country who move to and take up residence in another country tend to retain the full outlook on life that they had in their origin country. In addition to this, people who are nationals of the second country look upon the new residents as foreigners.
This is not new, but ages old, and the emergence of the European Union has not changed it at all.
The contrast is stark:
No matter what their country of origin, people who to come to America may keep some of their former traditions and habits, but over time they develop a very strong urge, and have a great tendency, to adopt American life and lifestyle, and they willingly become Americans in name, in practice and in thought.
It is easily one of the greatest things that America has going for it.

If this is a trick question, then the answer is "American". But if you simply meant ethnic background or something like that, then I think answering that question will be problematic. Very few people in the U.S. have a pure lineage traced back to a single ethnic group or nation somewhere else in the world.
