Where do they get the weird idea that they have a right to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures and that that right shall not be violated, and no warrants shall be issued, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.?
Is this more evidence they are in fact socialists like the intellegent conservative posters have learned us all?But if that is the case shouldn't they be happy with a law that would make Stalin proud? Please help me understand

Yes! That is right! Even though you list the rights it takes away, I will continue to say that the Patriot Act doesn't take any rights away because I don't read or think. Bush is protecting us, and if you have a problem with that you can go crying to the Constitution, which is a myth made up by liberals. If you do some research, you would see there never actually was a constitution.

We get that weird idea from the from the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. It's part of what is called the Bill of Rights.

For some reason, liberals can't get over the idea that these "rights" are not to be violated. Go figure.

While I don't believe that this makes liberals "Socialists" in the classic sense of the term, I do agree that the Patriot Act is a law that has Stalin's ghost laughing like the madman he was.

To summarize for you, we have a problem with the Patriot Act because we believe that the Constitution - including the Bill of Rights - is supreme inviolate law of this land and is not to be chipped away at in the name of "national security" or ANY other reason.

I'd rather die free than live safely without my Constitutional rights. Any good American feels this way.

I hope this helped you to understand.

Well first off we should at all times implicitly trust the state and the police - They are the gods who protect us and anyone who questions them or wants to oversee them is a radical - likely a terrorist -

The concept of due process takes too long - and it requires oversight of a judge who is at arms length from the real job of catching the bad guys They just should not participate in any of it -

A judge just interfers with police and helps the terror suspects get away - that is the implication of the Patriot act and so it must be true Never question that - or you will become either a communist or gay - or a gay communist terrorist - You don't want that now do you ?

If you sit on the toilet seat that a communist/terrorist used you may catch it - Judges don't understand the real threat of mass toilet seat contaminations

But thank god we did away with all that judge probable cause stuff

Now we can walk into any washroom public or private to inspect the home and business based on our gut witout having to let rights get in the way

Protecting America from due process - is the same as protecting America from terror and other tolet seat contaminations

Support the Patriot Act - or you will become a gay communist infecting tolet seat everywhere

Your tongue-in-cheek questions suggest you have a very good understanding of the immensity of the negativism involved with the Patriot Act, and similar regulatory measures.

You apparently understand that, if it is allowed to continue, those who seek to control the American public will ensure similar Acts and/or extensions of this Act are made, and as this occurs there will be an ever-increasing probability of such efforts leading to the destruction of the America that was forged over two hundred years ago, and for which countless lives have been given in its defense.

While huge amounts of effort are being made through the media to keep the public frightened, and thus distracted, by far the greatest danger America faces will not come from abroad: it is already very deep within America, and it is already very active.

Why don't you try reading the U.S Constitution and The Bill of Rights, because you have no idea what you are talking about. I'm against the Patriot Act because...
1) It sets a VERY dangerous precedent for the government to limit our civil liberties. What next, eliminate them?
2) The powers in the Patriot Act can, AND HAVE BEEN, abused by the government. It was recently discovered that the FBI abused the powers of the Patriot Act.
That's WHY !

are you serious?? It's not just liberals that have a problem with the patriot act, a lot of people do. It was legislation that was pushed through when most people in the country were scared and not paying attention to what was going on in government. It tramples many of our freedoms that have been guaranteed to us as Americans. As an American why doesn't it bother you??

There is little question that aspects of the Patriot Act, and, the Bush administration has usurped our right to privacy in these troubling days. We need new legislation to limit how this information can be used by government agencies, because, I doubt we will be able to put the genie back in the bottle.

nevermind. Have you ever read the book 1984, or brave new world? The fact is it infringes on the very foundation of what freedom means. The patriot Act actually violates the constitution.

Haven't they always had a problem with patriots? Hell, they did far worse things than the Patriot Act does back in World War II. When a Nazi U-boat landed commandos in NJ, they were rounded up, tried by a military tribunal, and executed -- all on OUR SHORES, not in Cuba! But Dems like that don't exist anymore. That's probably why the Dems haven't won a war since WW II. As a holocaust survivor once told me, "When people tell you they're coming to kill you, believe them!" The Dems don't seem to believe them, and I'm afraid the country will pay a much higher price than 9/11 for their stupidity!

HEY! Don't leave us TRUE Conservatives out! We're foolish enough to believe in the Constitution and the rule of law too! Good thing we have those neo-con patriots to show us the error of our ways!
