There's a rumor going around that Flavio Briatore had a private conversation with Fernando Alonso about a possible consideration to rejoin Renault after this season. Do you think he should return? If so, why.

Alonso is settling down with McLaren now and getting the car set up the way he likes. He will win the championship again, but perhaps not this year.

I can't see Alonso going back to Renault. My opinion is that Alonso proved himself driving for Renault and winning two World Championships. Because of his track record, as it were, Alonso was able to negotiate easily for the McLaren drive. My feeling is that after he gets a couple seasons or so with McLaren, his plan was to then try for Ferrari. Of course, Hamilton came along and set the F1 world all topsy-turvy, and has thrown a wrench into Alonso's plans.

That said, you can't count Alonso out just yet. He's still very young, and still is driving one of the top four quickest cars in F1 (at least, this season). If Kimi's resurgence as a force keeps up, he will surely continue his drive with Ferrari next season, and Massa, kind of being a Ferrari protege, will not quickly lose his seat with Ferrari. So, that basically closes the door for Alonso to move to Ferrari next season, and with his talent, the only other place in F1 I could see him going--where he'd have at a competitive drive--is BMW. But BMW has got Kubica, who is doing well, and Heidfeld, who is 11 points up on Kubica.

NO WAY!!!!!! Fernando has said before that he wanted to race the Mclarens. If Fernando was to leave Mclaren, he would be getting a lesser car. If he really wants to contend for another championship, he needs to stay at Mclaren so he will have the same equipment as Hamilton.

Yea, I dont believe it either Mclaren has been dominate of late (except for the last two races) but still has been the best team so far in this year. Renault not so much. Dont see it happening.

I doubt he will because renault has not been as competitive as mclaren lately. Also, I thought that despite the outward niceness Alonso has effectively burned his bridges with Flav.

no he won't go back to renault because first of all Mclare is a better car second of all is if he's is having problems with beatig he teammate in the same car he would have no chance in beating Hamilton in a worse car. And third of all what would happen to either Kovalien or Fisichella on of them would have to go and that wouldn't be right.

no. if he did leave McLaren next year in my opinion it would only be to go to Ferrari or BMW. Renault are just not up there this year. It has always been his dream to drive for McLaren as Senna was his hero, so i hope whatever issues they have (if any) are resolved quickly. Being a McLaren fan, i hope he stays.

absolutely no chance.
*renault are slower than mclaren by a long way
*he has a multi-year contract with mclaren
*moving so soon when he has the best car is basically just admitting that he's not as good as hamilton - now that really is unlikely.

No.Have you seen Renault lately? The 2007 ride has not been very good lately and Alonso just narrowly avoided disaster.Mclaren was his destiny.

I sincerely doubt it. I think he's lost his edge this season and it's beginning to take his confidence down and it shows, but I don't see him leaving McLaren MB for anything. Except perhaps the scandal that's brewing.
