I inherited some property with along 6 other people and I owe the property I live on which the property I inherited runs right behind my property. The others want to sell as a whole and don't want to give me the land behind my house. (these are family members) I have obtained a lawyer but the end result was that he suggested we do a sheriff sale. I don't want the whole property just the share I own behind my house. Any ideas??

Just because you inherited a piece of land with 6 other people, you cannot force them to break off a piece for you as you see fit.

The land might NOT be dividable as 7 different parcels. If this is the case, it's either you buy it all or sell the whole thing and divide the proceeds with 6 other people.

You should fire your attorney as far as I am concerned. Why would he suggest a Sheriff's sale anyways?

Good Luck, but fighting with family members for these things never amount to anything at the end.

I don't exactly understand your question. How can you force whom to do what? Is the land behind your house part of the property that you inherited? If it is, there shouldn't be a problem - if it isn't, you don't own it.

What would a sheriff sale have to do with this?

Please give a little more info.

You need to be clearer. You can't force a sale.

Who are they? And why do you think "they" should "give the land" behind the house?
