This is the beginning of the age of terrorism in the western world. There have been terrorist attacks everywhere else. With the advancement of technology, the terrorist's technology and intelligence will increase as well.
Since we are in Iraq right now, we are only creating more hatred against the US.
Think of it like a spring. We are applying more and more pressure. The second we let go, it will be a massive retaliation on us.
We have two solutions, keep the pressure down so the spring is held down or let go now and face the consequences.
You could say break the spring, but that would be wiping out every last person in the mideast who hates us and would attack us (basically a nuking, very unethical)
With each passing day, the consequences will only get worse. Once the dems have power, the spring will release and America is gonna get attacked HARD. At that moment, many conservatives will say "well we should have stayed in Iraq, those limp wristed dems screwed America"

Why can't they understand that going into Iraq was a mistake? (Afghanistan was worth it...but we barely touched it compared to Iraq)
So why can't you understand this?

Afghanistan is where the terrorists were from.
Bad intelligence led us to Iraq (if any intelligence) and there were no WMDs.
Those jokes are becoming old, but they are still true.

I'm not saying we created Islamic terrorists, but we are inciting more to be created.

Yeah, I understand that they have different ideals of the world and how to treat people, but if you keep pushing a person who already hates you, they're only going to fight back harder.
So which is more logical? Letting it build up until you can't control it? Or figuring a way out of it now?
According to most of the posts here, the answer is "Keep pushing! America 4ever! Bush is God! Where'd my money go? Oh thats right, I spent all my tax cut money on a new tv! What's that? My wife needs a costy operation? Oh well, she wants socialized health care now, so she can die or leave the country!"

At least B. Kevorkian had the guts to read it completely.
I don't agree with what he said, but at least what he said proves to me he read it and is actually thinking

because it is nonsense.
there has in fact already been an attack here (it was in all of the papers), our counter attack was a response not the cause.
you are correct that the Iraq war and the war on terror are different. the Iraq war was because Saddam invaded Kuwait, then after being defeated he violated the surrender (breaking more then a dozen UN resolutions), so there was really no choice there except when to respond, and it can be argued that this administration overstated the urgency.
but the war on terror started months before this in Afghanistan, and you seem to support this spring tightening effort depending on the geography. if we confront them in Afghanistan tighten the spring, if we confront them in Iraq let the spring go, and if we confront them here forget it, ignore it or blame it on ourselves (three very bad options).
your argument cannot be understood because it is inconsistent and incomprehensible.

I think we lock the spring down. We don't let go of it, we lock it down, and if anyone attempts to unlock it, we cut their head off. I'm for pushing harder and harder and harder. It's a battle of wills, and right now we are losing the will. The will to win, not fight. Congress wants to brake the back of America int succeeding. AMERICA does not fight wars to lose. Washington is running this war to stay status quo. Al Q is losing in Iraq.
Why is it that the same people who claim to be so smart and said before going to war they knew what the consequences are, are the same people saying pull out now. Do they not know what the consequences are from us leaving the area. They want to compare this war to Vietnam all the time. Do they not remember the millions slaughtered after we left. The consequences of a pull out far out weight if we stay and do the minimum that we are doing now. The only way out of this war is to stick it to them harder than anyone has ever seen. Threaten Nukes if we have to. It's hard to portray our millitary's toughness, if our country is acting like a bunch of French pansies.

You my friend are extremely naive when someone attacks you the absolutely worse thing you can do is nothing.
when you ignore bad behavior you just encourage more bad behavior it is a concept that liberals like yourself have never been able to grasp.
When Hitler started to invade certain countries in Europe the rest of the world chose to basically ignore it and what was the outcome of that appeasement? They really don't teach history in high school anymore and you are a epitome of this.

I love these questioners who are obvious hold overs from the old message boards. They ask a question...usually a silly and pointless question designed to get a response...and then 'edit' in an attempt to create a dialogue. But you can't answer their counter points. 'Answers' is not a place for 'dialogue'. It's a place for question and response. Frustrating and VERY limiting, I know. I hate it, but deal with it. You're not going to get a conversation here friend.

Why can't you understand that they hate our society and our way of life. They hate that we allow women to walk next to a man and not behind him, they hate that we live comfortably and talk openly about topics rather than getting beheaded for blasphemy. When are you going to understand that they are not going to be content until our society and the Jewish state is destroyed.
We can't just sit around and sing songs - it is not going to happen. We engaged the enemy overseas, rather than on our mainland. This is so your dumb self can go to bed at night and feel safer than having fighting going on in front of your house. When are you going to understand, when are you going to get a true vision of reality, when are you going to get off your butt and thank those who are giving you the freedom to come on here and act stupid?

Speak to the terrorists and dictators that want to wipe us off the face of the Earth. Ask them nicely "Please stop hating us" and hope that they listen. Maybe they'll put those suicide bombers out of commission and maybe they'll say "Yes, we'll unmask ourselves and throw away our machetes and machine guns. And yes we'll let the 12-year olds become children again instead of martyrs and we no longer want the 72 white grapes that Allah has for us in heaven".
Try to speak in a convincing powerful voice and maybe you can bring peace to the world. Sweet.
