I like both answers , but what I was looking for was why Pujols was added to the team. I think #1 Cards answer is what I'm looking for. Thanks to both of you.

I believe he replaced Tino Martinez. Tino went to Tampa Bay in 2004 and to the Yankees in 2005. Bobby Bonilla played first base for the Cardinals in 2001 and Pujols was in the outfield with Edmonds and J.D. Drew. Pujols never took the position of Bonilla or replaced him in the line-up. Tino Martinez replaced Bonilla in 2002 and also played first base in 2003. In 2004 Martinez went to Tampa Bay and Pujols took over for Martinez at first base from that time going forward. In 2000 both Eric Davis and Ray Lankford were in the outfield for the Cardinals and neither was on the team in 2001, so you could say that Pujols took the line-up spot of one of those players. The #1 Cards fan is correct about Pujols replacing Bonilla on the roster but I read the question as who Puljos replaced in the line-up, and Bonilla and Pujols both played at the same time in 2001, at different positions, and Pujols did not replace Bonilla in the line-up. Maybe it is just me, #1 Cards fan, and I just don't understand the question.

It was Bobby Bonilla. Albert Pujols replaced his roster spot after he went on the DL to begin the 2001 season. For some reason, I've always remembered that.

Frizzer seems to be mixed up. Before the 2001 season began, Bobby Bonilla was put on the DL. The Cardinals called up Albert Pujols to fill his spot in the 25-man roster. Trust me, I'm right.

NO way. Albert Pujols is the final participant in baseball.Roy Halladay is a ideal 3 yet no longer the final. There basically isn't yet another Albert Pujols for an prolonged time yet there will be a Roy Halladay
