that is.I'll try to answer later. I'm going to a 1:50pm showing.

Great movie. I liked it.

When we do not want to look at something our minds act like "steel doors" that are tightly shut. His mind was tightly shut, understandably so, to the death of his daughter. He up and left his wife, "I'm going out for cigarettes." We live in our own self constructive hell, evil room, 1408. His daughter appeared to him right after the door opened at his bidding. He was facing his own demons and won, maybe. The sequel will show more, if it does good in the box office.

I think I know what door you're talking about...it really confuses me, too. He opens the door and it's all black but we see him looking out the door and then the door zooms into him. I don't really get it but I think that it is him taking on the properties of the room thereafter. He gets out of the room, but the evil seems to still be with him after.
Really good question...I hope others have better answers!

I saw the movie twice already. If you're talking about the time that the door to the room looked like it was a little glowy, it's just the room to the door. He can't get through it but the only way to escape is to get through it. It's a one-way door, though, you can come in but you can't get out. Only someone from the outside can open the door for you and get you out.

Like the maid that blinded herself. She was locked in just the bathroom for just a few minutes but it was the people OUTSIDE who could save her. Once you're in, you can't save yourself unless, like with Mike Enslin, you find a way to get people to open the door for you.
