Almost certainly yes, likely sailing out of Bristol. We have a letter sent, probably, to Columbus which mentions this so he might have known of it just before his voyage.

It's possible. There is also evidence to suggest that the Portuguese may have sighted the Newfoundland coast previous to Cabot. Some of their maps show a land roughly analogous to New Foundland and the area around the Grand Banks labeled as "Terra do Bacalhau" -- Land of the Codfish.

Its highly likely, the Vikings actually were the first Europeans to North America around 1000. They landed in Newfound Land, Canda.

Supposedly the Norwegians were first on Atlantic coast. Who knows on Pacific?
