I thought it was just done that way because it was a religious sacrifice. They hang the animal, and slit it's throat so that it squeals and the blood pumps out faster. It's to drain the meat. It happens to allot of animals not just cows.

It`s the BEEF that`s hung NOT the Cow.

I understand exactly what you mean - its very popular with muslim cultures.

The meat is known as HALAL

Halal is a method used to slaughter animals - It involves severing the major arteries in the neck of the animal, as well as the esophagus and trachea, with one swipe of a nonserrated blade and then the animal is hung upside down to allow the blood to flow out through the gash.

Some animal rights groups contend that this method of slaughter causes unnecessary pain and suffering to the animal when compared to modern methods, which involve stunning the animal prior to slaughter.

Any meat that is 'hung' is treated that way AFTER the animal has been killed! Can you really imagine trying to hang a live cow .. or perhaps you were joking!

No, you misunderstand. The meat is hung after killing the animal - the process of execution is the same (electrocuted, then the through is slit open to drain the blood)

It's very cruel but it makes sense.

You see usually they shoot the cow.
So the bullet or bullets get all inside your cow making it un-tasty.

So if you hang them you usually eat the belly area, not the neck area.
