Javy was a good catcher and had a good career while Yogi was a great catcher and had a great career. Berra was the leader of great Yankee teams that included the likes of Mantle, Maris, Skowron, Martin, Richardson, and many others. Without Berra those Yankee teams would not have had the "glue" that kept them together.

Let the numbers do the talking:
Lifetime batting avergage Berra .285 Lopez .287 edge to Lopez
Homeruns Berra 358 Lopez 260 Big edge to Berra
Lopez struck out almost 1000 times, while Berra struck out just over 400 times. Big edge to Berra.
Hits Berra 2150 Lopez 1527 Edge to Berra
Lopez was 1 and 1 in the world series while Berra was 10 and 4.
Lopez was an all-star 3 times, Berra was an all-star every year from 1948 to 1962
Berra was a 3 time MVP, while Lopez finished 5th in the voting one year.
You can go on and on. Berra is a Hall of Famer, while Lopez was a very good player. The stats are actually a bit closer than I thought they would be, but you still have to give Berra a pretty big edge.

the two have been super catchers. Yogi grow to be a miles extra effective offensive participant than Dickey. Yogi grow to be statistically a extra effective catcher defensively. Yogi performed longer and grow to hitch extra international sequence championships besides. Yogi grow to be a three time American League MVP, Dickey in no way gained an MVP. on the subject of the only stat Dickey had over Yogi grow to be a life-time batting regular: .313 to .285 neither that's in basic terms too shabby to make confident. I supply the sting to Yogi.

Offensively, you may be able to make a case for one current catcher, Mike Piazza, possibly Ivan Rodriguez, whom I don't like nearly as much as everyone else.
Javy Lopez, 2 or 3 really good years. Ahh, I don't think so.
