Send the debt collector a registered letter telling them to "cease & desist" calling your parents.
There are federal laws regarding this called the "Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices" - http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpa/fdcpact.htm

From ftc.com...
May a debt collector contact anyone else about your debt?
"If you have an attorney, the debt collector must contact the attorney, rather than you. If you do not have an attorney, a collector may contact other people, but only to find out where you live, what your phone number is, and where you work. Collectors usually are prohibited from contacting such third parties more than once. In most cases, the collector may not tell anyone other than you and your attorney that you owe money."

RE:
Are debt collectors allowed to call your family?
Somehow a debt collector got my parents phone number and have been calling them. Isn't that an invasion of privacy? I don't want these people harassing my aging parents.

Can they legally contact others about your debt: No. If they are credit card collector, violating Federal law is standard procedure. They are engaged in psychological warfare. ANYTHING that may get you to send money IS on the table. The best advise I have heard for dealing with collectors is to get a fax number to sent them information. Every time they contact anyone about you, reply with a 20 page fax. They will get tired of wasting paper and toner in the fax machine. Air horns also get their attention.

They can only contact them if they do not have a number for you or if you are at their home. You can tell them exactly what numbers they can call and at what times and they have to comply. The most important thing however, is to get your debt paid off so that they will stop calling altogether!

That is exactly why they are doing it. They shouldn't be able to talk to your parents about the debt unless they are on it also. But getting them to stop calling may not be possible.

If someone owed YOU some money and you couldn't contact them because they were avoiding you, how would get your money back? Wouldn’t you use EVERY available avenue to contact them? Contact them through friends, relatives, how? They are harassing your parents because they can't contact YOU, so don't blame THEM.
The most frustrating thing for a creditor is not being able to talk with SOMEONE about the problem. When you hide from their calls it just make it worse. A simple conversation with the creditor can go a long way to keeping the problem contained and not involving other people.
There are companies out there that deal solely with reducing your debt, getting creditors off your back and getting your finances under control, use them and save your parents the pain and embarrassment of having YOUR creditors calling them.
