I'm open to any type really, I just want an efficient hoover that I can use to hoover floors and also suck cobwebs from corners with a flexy tube.

I'm considering the water filter vacuum since they don't need bags and I hate the mess of bags + they're costly.

If you could write down:
make of vacuum,
age,
whether you have pets/difficult dirt,
and the pros/cons + whether you'd buy it again.

that'll help me make a descision!
Thank you!!

I bought the Roomba about December of 2006. It's model is the "Scheduler" and it runs on a schedule you set up. After running it goes back to the base to recharge. I have it vacuuming twice a week. It does a great job, as I would be lucky to to the vacuuming every two weeks.

So, my recommendation is that you buy and use the Roomba. I was hesitant at the beginning as I did not think it would have enough power. It does!

I needed a good vacuum for my house. I have cat's so I had all that nasty cat hair. So I went to Consumer Reports Magazine. They did vacuums in the October 2006 issue.
They listed Sears Kenmore as # 1. So I thought what the hell and bought it. Let me tell you it's the very best vacuum I've ever bought. And I've bought many Hoovers and others.
Consumer Reports thought Dyson was one of the worst.
Believe me I really don't think any vacuum would beat the Kenmore for power and pick up. The deep cleaning is great. Read this issue of Consumer Reports you will learn a lot. You can go to your local library to find it. I had told someone else in answers about my vaccum. They bought it and loved it too. By the way what I have is a up right and has a bag.
I've owen a bagless Hoover and it was a real pain to empty.
I had dust everywhere. The bag seems to take a long time to fill and they don't cost too much. It's cleaner and I'am happy.

Don't be fooled by water filtration vacuums! When the dirty air passes through the water, it is broken down into tiny air bubbles. Unfortunately, there is dirt that is suspended in the bubble and never makes contact with the water. Also, there are several types of dirt that are not soluble in water and pass right through. A lot of companies have admitted to this problem by placing a HEPA filter at the end of the exhaust. If the water filters so well, why need a HEPA filter too??
Finally, the semi-filtered, humid air that passed through the water is then passed directly through the motor to cool it. These motors rust too easily as a result. That is why they insist that you don't let water sit in the vacuum in the closet.

i have a bagless Pro Action hoover bought from Argos for about £50. It is marvelous, you will be amazed at what this machine will pick up. when you first get it hoover your mattress with it and then look at the filter. on second thought dont do that you'll never sleep in a bed again ! tehe. it really is amazing, i normally get through 1-2 hoovers a year but this one has lasted really well although i had to take the first one back because it was faulty. i really cant recommend it highly enough, for a cheap hoover its great.

I've got a Morphy Richards Performair which I got to replace my rubbish Dyson cylinder cleaner. It cost me £72, is bagless, has a washable lifetime filter (with spare for when the other is drying), comes with tools and an extra-long hose for the stairs. It also has a sliding switch to adjust the level of suction (on Max I can hardly lift it off the floor), and I think it is just fab. I'll never buy another Dyson. I don't have any pets, but I have long hair and moult constantly myself lol.

Consumer Reports rated vacuum cleaners in May 2007, I think it was. Based on their recommendation, I got myself Kenmore Progressive Canister Vacuum with Telescopic Wand, Blue Moon White, Sears item #02025615000 Mfr. model #25615 for $279.99 (save $70--Lists for $350). Telescoping aluminum wand is lighter than 25513’s chrome-on-steel wand; horsehair tools. Cord 28’. Hose 7’. Rotating brush with on/off switch.

It's okay, but not quite as good as the 15-20 year old Hoover cannister it's replacing. I couldn't find any with that much suction.

Plusses: It's very light in comparison to the old one. Its extras store logically and are easy to get at. The HEPA bags can be replaced with cheaper paper ones. The telescoping wand is cool and very, very lightweight.

Minuses: It doesn't deal any better than any vacuum I've ever had with our household's constant problems, popcorn and long hair. (Hair wound around the beater brush-bar burned out my old vacuum.)

FWIW, I had a bagless vacuum on loan and absolutely hated emptying it. No matter how careful I was, a lot of dust ended up in the air, so I decided I wanted a bag model.

I have a Kirby now for about 15 years. Occasional basic maintenance needed, but not a lot. Maybe 3 times since I have owned it.
It works great to this day. I purchased a Hoover wind tunnel last year as a second vac , and it lasted less then a year [as a SECOND vac!!]. At the time Hoover was a consumer reports top rated vac.

Kirbys are expensive, don't waste your money on the carpet cleaner part. It is not worth it. But I think they are worth the money in the long run, you will not have to purchase a yearly cheaper model.

I recently asked the vac repair shop about a good 2nd vac. He suggested Miele as a canister vac. I have never used one so I cannot give first hand experience on a Miele.

Shop-Vac Wet or Dry = The only vacuum you'll ever need for your house, garage, attic, whatever. The wet vac feature is great spills and cleaning high traffic areas on your carpet or floors. They range in many sizes, so be sure to ask your salesperson for the best size for your needs. Another great thing about these units is that if you accidentally vacuum up your blings and things, they can be retrieved wearing a simple pair of rubber gloves - not an artificial breathing apparatus you would need to fish through vacuum bags!

I LOVE my new vacuum. It's a Eureka Maxima (bagless). I've had it over a year now, but it still seems new to me. It's the first bagless I ever owned, and all I ever have to do is dump the container after vacuuming, and occasionally take off the filter and wash it! That's it! It runs like brand new every time I wash the filter, and so far I haven't had to buy or replace anything on it. Best of all.. it was $60.00 at Walmart! :) I definately recommend this vacuum to everyone!

We have pets and all, and the best vacuum I've had is a dyson. We've had it for 3 years, and have never had a problem with it, and seriously doubt that I ever will. It doesn't have any bags to mess with, cleaning it is a breeze, and it was ingeniously designed. That and it picks up a LOT more dust and dirt than any other vacuum we've gone through. You should go to a store and check one out.
