I am auditioning for the role of Nancy, but I have never seen the show before. Do you know of a song that conveys the same type of mood/personality as the songs she sings in the show? The song I normally sing is "******** Optimist" and I don't think that song quite fits her character, since this seems like a darker show than "South Pacific".

I'm sure you know that it's a no-no to sing from the show unless they specifically request it so how about:

The Gentleman is a Dope - Allegro
Send in the Clowns - A Little Night Music
Maybe This Time - Cabaret
Before The Parade Passes By - Hello Dolly (be careful with this one... you really have to do it well or not at all)

All of them can show Nancy's weakness, strength, and vulnerability but it's up to you to bring that out.

"As Long As He Needs Me" is the emotional climax for Nancy. If you don't want to sing it, try something else in your range that builds to the end.

"Maybe This Time"---Cabaret
"Stormy Weather" (If you don't need a song from a show)
"Can't Help Lovin' That Man"---Showboat (bridge to the end)

Good Luck!

"As Long as He Needs Me," from Oliver! is sung by Nancy, and is a good choice if you want to show her character.

Best wishes!
