In a capitalist society, big money does ALL of the real talking.
Here's an excerpt from Albert Einstein's essay Why Socialism:
"Private capital tends to become concentrated in few hands, partly because of competition among the capitalists, and partly because technological development and the increasing division of labor encourage the formation of larger units of production at the expense of smaller ones. The result of these developments is an oligarchy of private capital the enormous power of which cannot be effectively checked even by a democratically organized political society. This is true since the members of legislative bodies are selected by political parties, largely financed or otherwise influenced by private capitalists who, for all practical purposes, separate the electorate from the legislature. The consequence is that the representatives of the people do not in fact sufficiently protect the interests of the underprivileged sections of the population. Moreover, under existing conditions, private capitalists inevitably control, directly or indirectly, the main sources of information (press, radio, education). It is thus extremely difficult, and indeed in most cases quite impossible, for the individual citizen to come to objective conclusions and to make intelligent use of his political rights."

Politicians try to make people vote for them by lying to them . They say they will do all of the things the people want him to do but as soon as the person gets into office he gets arrogant and shuts off the public immediately. Or sometimes politicians like to play the "race card". Or they might even try to get spiritual to gain a certain religious group's vote. Politicians today are setting a bad example for the young people in today's generation. Its sad that at the age of 16 (my age) I witness so much political corruption. You'd think they'd try to set a good example for people my age. Makes me sad to see what's going to happen to this country as I grow older.

It seems that as soon as we throw one corrupt politician out he is replaced by yet another corrupt politician.
We could of course throw out all the incumbents and only vote for independents hoping that they would do our bidding. What new politicians soon find out that is that there are many laws on the book that prevent them from doing what the people want them to do in many cases. So even if they are not corrupt, their hands are tied by the laws and it makes them appear even less honest.

Because both parties nominate /only/ corrupt politicians. The special interests donate to both campaigns in any race - more to the one they believe is more likely to win. Money buys add time which buys votes, so there's something of a self-fullfilling prophecy there.

I don't know. All politicians except for Ron Paul and the Libertarian Party are corrupt (they do not follow the Constitution).

the sad thing is all politicians are corrupt. Thats the problem. Sometimes its hard to choose the lesser of two evils and there will never be one president that we all agree on.

Because they're all corrupt. If they don't start out that way they become it during their term. Most of the time I feel as if I'm choosing between the lesser of two evils.

because people are stupid. They buy their lies EVERY SINGLE TIME! It's as if they want the corrupt ones in power.
And when someone with some actual integrity comes around, like Ron Paul, many of these same people don't want anything to do with him!
Career politicians are usually lawyers - they know how to fool people (Although actors can do just as well). I think we would all be better off to just pick somebody to be our president at RANDOM.

Because people are afraid of change and believe that all politicains are corrupt because of a lack of education in political affairs, I did a project on this for my degree and it proved that those are the two amin reasons for a lack of change in voting patterns
