have you ever touched something straight out of the oven that is covered in foil wrap...hot right....foil transmits heat...your idea doesnt work. if you are serious about keeping heat out there are several options.
1. use a tint on windows that has UV block
2. use light blocking vertical blinds
3. use thermal curtains, they block light and heat
4. use all of the above
thermal curtains in both the summer and winter block both heat and cold and will help to reduce your utility bills.

You are too funny. First of all, even if you are right, which you really aren't, do you like the way it looks? I mean from a decorating perspective, UGH! O.K. Spend a few bucks and get the windows professionally tinted, we did that in our house and no lie it makes about a 20 degree difference in the hot California summer sun.

technically foil reflects light and heat, and therefore, if strategically placed, may help to keep heat out.
I never tried that, but I'd recommend you to measure inside temperature when you're using the foil and when not.
That will definitely tell you correct answer.

That is the most ghetto thing I have ever heard.
Take the foil off the windows, dear. No energy savings is worth that much visual pain from your neighbors.

It works. I live in Phoenix, Arizona where we are currently experiencing 110+ degrees each day, and we have been for two weeks, and -- by God -- who cares what it looks like? People here have known the efficacy of this trick for decades.
It works.

Howard Hughes and Elvis did the same thing. Of course...they were both insane and drug abusers.
To disassociate myself from these two...I'd stick with closing the blinds.
