My son is 2 Months, 2 Weeks and 1 day old. He is already wanting to start solids!! When he was born, he weighed 6 pounds 4.6 ounces. He now weighs about 16 pounds! He is drinking about 5 ounces every 3 hours. He sits up great assisted. He gets really excited whenever we eat or he smells food. He is always sticking his fingers and any toys that he has a hold of in his mouth. I have already fed him apple sauce and he LOVES it! He chews and pushes it to the back of his mouth and swallows it like he is supposed to. This all just seems really weird to me! He is so young! I have a 6 year old daughter too and she was the same way when she was a baby. But the difference with her was that she was sleeping through the night at 1 month old. My 2 1/2 month old wakes up EVERY 3 hours to eat! Like clock work!! Is there any advice that anyone can give me? Either about helping him sleep through the night or with his feeding? Please, no rude or bashing answers!

Sometimes this happens. Under strict guidelines from our doctor, our daughter started eating stage 1 apples, peaches, and eventually bananas at 7 weeks. Not all babies tummies are the same!
Try to mix rice cereal and applesauce with a bit of formula or breast milk at night before bath time.
If he wont eat that, then do the applesauce and rice cereal.
At this early of an age, he still needs the iron and nutrients constantly, so please try to feed him only once at night. The rest of the meals should be bottles.
At around 4-5 months you can begin introducing him to fruits beyond the three mentioned above, then around 5-6 months you can start veggies.
The biggest thing to remember is to change up the three fruits so that he doesnt become bored, because you really want to limit the fruits that he is exposed to for now.

And this deal about babies not liking veggies after having fruits is completely false in most cases.

I think it does sound unusual, but if his sister was like that then it is probably fine, but taking in too many calories can also be unhealthy. Also, starting solids too soon can possibly lead to food allergies and other problems. (Breast milk or infant formula supplies all of your baby's nutritional needs for at least the first 4 to 6 months of life, so don't be in a rush to start solid baby foods. Starting solids too early can cause your baby to develop food allergies. Your baby's intestinal tract is not as fully developed during the first few months and introducing solids at this time can be too much to handle -- http://www.keepkidshealthy.com/infant/startingsolids.html) To be sure, I would check with my doctor....they are definitely the people to ask about this!

I also included a good link about food for infants and nutrition, it is interesting and also talks about growth rates. Good luck :)

At his age, he is far too young to be started on solids. World Health Organization recommends starting solids no earlier than 6 months of age. BM/formula is the only thing your baby NEEDS for the first year. Anything else is just extra. Babies digestive systems just aren't mature enough to handle anything else. By delaying solids it decreases the risk of your child having food allergies, helps protect against iron deficiency,obesity..the list goes on. Why rush?
As for him sleeping through the night.Every baby is different, and some sleep through the night earlier than others (schedules or food usually have nothing to do with this). At his age, its not expected for him to sleep through the night and there isn't much you can do. Good luck!

Feed that baby. If he's hungry, let him have it. And since he's so anxious, get him started on veggies like carrots and green beans. My oldest son wasn't interested in food and now he's VERY PICKY. My middle son will eat anything and wanted solid food at about 3 months. He's now my healthy veggie eater. The doctor would probably say to cut back on so much fomula and feed him some solids in place of it. All doctors are different, but mine is very open minded. He'd say go for it.

I am sure you will get plenty of rude answers... apparently some people dont realize that the whole point of this board is to get help - not criticize. I would talk to your Dr. before starting any solids. He/she could probably also give you some ideas about getting him to sleep better at night. Som Dr.'s recomend cereal in their formula to fill them up, others are totally against it. It doesnt hurt to ask. Good luck =)

Go and pick up some cream of wheat (not flavored) and after you cook it, add a little of fruit to flavor it. It will be safer for him instead of straight fruit so early. About the sleeping thing, my girl has slept through the night since she was 1 month old too, but my sister had trouble with her baby. What worked for her was to give her daughter a bath with lots of toys. She was always relaxed and exhausted after that.

I personally think you should try to stick to formula for a few more months. It has been proven in numerous studies that feeding a child solid foods before they are 6 months old can result in the child developing food allergies.

I'd just be careful if I were you!!!

He is only 2 months you can't expect him to sleep through the nite until much later... even if your other one did. I would stay with one food at a time to avoid misidentification of food allergy. Stay on cereal. Don't give a bottle to sleep with; BEFORE bed is fine but do not let them sleep with it. One way of getting him to sleep through the nite is to keep everything quite during nite feedings. But don't expect him to sleep through the nite right away He is still so young.

if you think that he has gotten enough food during the day then at night when he wakes up to eat try not to feed him. instead try to find ways to soothe him and then help him soothe himself back to sleep.. thats how we finally got our girl (5 months) to sleep through the night. on occasion she still wakes up but i give her her paci and she goes right back to sleep. even though i wake up occasionally at least i dont have to go make a bottle. if you think he hasnt ha enough to eat during the day.. make a bottle of 3 or 4 ounces and give it to him right before bed, or wake him up and give it to him right before you go to bed but do it in the bedroom with really low lights so that he knows its for bedtime. hope that helps. thats how we did it for our baby starting at about 3 months..
and im with you on all the a$$holes answering our questions... get a real life.
