On some nights whenever those rap listeners drive by or stop a block down making lots of noise.. I wish I had a sniper rifle and shoot the son of a ***** driver and make him pay for rap noise.

mu·sic /ˈmyuzɪk/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[myoo-zik] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1. an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.

I would say that people who come up with rap have idea and all that mumbo jumbo that would consider it music. But honestly look to the roots of Rap and of Metal and most rock and most music it all comes from the same place and just became evolved. Music is something you iterperate on your own. Which is why asking the questions like "what does this song mean" is pointless you have to actually awnser the question for yourself...to you is Rap Considered Music?

Well, when defining something like this its all subjective, so really, to each his own. However I believe it is music, here's why I think so.

The rhythm in Rap and Hip-Hop traces directly back to jazz. Its a 12/8 feel (for the most part anyway), its all the same thing. Rhythm is an essential element of most definitions of music and rap surely passes that test. If they use samples and pre-made beats it may be unartistic, uncreative commercial crap (Hello Puffy!), however there are plenty of people that use those techniques incredibly creatively and artistcally. Then of course there are those that do this on live drums (Like Questlove from The Roots - if you think you don't like rap and hip-hop, go listen to The Roots).

Most rappers, good ones anyway, can freestyle. That is - they improvise with words. I want to see people that dismiss rap try to do that and tell me its not musical.

So, thats pretty much why I consider rap to be music, really a very original and creative form of music. Its a shame its commercial, but so are so many so-called "singers" today in mainstream music are a joke.

[Is rap music really music?]
It's usually someone else's music.

At the same time I don't think it's right to trash the entire genre, even though I'm not a big fan of it myself. There are probably some underground rap artists out there who aren't all about ho's, bit***s, blingbling, car jacking...etc. But since it's the ignorant stuff that sells, that's what you're mostly going to see and hear.

Rap is not music in truth but there is social pressure from the have-nots (because they deserve-not) to classify it as such. Ask yourself this question: Can these "rap artists" create anything at all or are they just too stupid born with bad DNA that makes them walk funny, like shiny objects, and have exaggerated facial features? If you could never imagine them creating anything else in their life then how could they possibly create music?

There are different types of rap music that will make you feel motivated or relaxed and inspired. There is also some that will aggravate you. Listen to A Tribe Called Quest "Electric Relaxation" or Common "The Light". If you are motivated by money listen to Kanye West new single "Can't tell me nothing".

The stuff they play on the radio is crap. There really is some very good rap music you have to look for it.

Older rap might have been considered music, with its revolutionary aditude and lusch beats. New rap (1992-present) has become generic, violent and unmusicial. Its preety much guys talking fast to a drumbeat with lyrics written by some crack head, to some odd keyboard lick. Music? I don't think so. Jimi Hendrix, now thats music.

Erm, rap is music, a poetic and rythmic art that is one of the most popular genres today. I will say i do not like most rap music i.e.-"Shoot a cop muthafu**a fuc* bitc*es and h0s", thats terrible. But I am into most progressive rap, rap that sends a positive message. And 'Dagger', the republicans are evil! :O

No, it's just that sing-song nonsense that little kids have done throughout the ages, with some of it being a little more elaborate. That's why it became so popular, because it combines factors of the lowest common denominator, thus making so that (almost) anyone can do it.
