The two managers of the team that won the AL and NL of last year manage the Al and NL teams in the All star game the next year. What if the manager who coached the NL team of the World Series last year decided to retire or quit. Who would coach the NL team the following year for the All-Star game?

Dusty Baker went to the Series with SF in 2002. He left and went to the Cubs in 2003. He was still the MGR of the NL squad even though he wasn't a Giant anymore. Excellent question by the way.

He would still be the manager for the All-Star game. An example would be Bob Lemon, who led the Yankees to the pennant in 1978 but was fired in the offseason. He still managed the '79 All-Star team.

If the manager was unable or unwilling to manage, there aren't any procedures in place to say who the manager would be. I would suspect they'd pick the new manager of the World Series team if he'd been a coach the previous year. If not, perhaps the previous year's manager would be asked to fill in.

Whoever is managing the team that made it to the World Series. It is decided by the team. If, say, Tony LaRussa was managing the Cubs this year, he would not still be the All-Star manager for the NL, it would be whoever replaced him in St. Louis as Manager.

The league would select another manager. Also, It is the manager from the winning team, and not the winning manager. So the manager that comes in to replace the one leaving would be given consideration. There is no set rule, that I am aware of, that says who will manage the all-star team if the winning manager from the previous year is unable or unwilling to manage the team, it is up to league management to make that determination.
