I am thinking about getting a "2001 Chevrolet Prizm LSi 4D Sedan" . . .
does anyone know how reliable those are?
or of any common problems with those cars?

It's basically a Toyota Corolla - so very reliable.

Get it checked by a mechanic (you should always do this) - but it should be a very reliable and durable car if properly maintained.

Good luck!

If I'm not mistaken, this car basically has the same drivetrain from Toyota Corolla, the engine and transmission. Other components are still Chevy.

It's a nice dependable car that won't break down on you. But if realiability is what you're looking for, why not choose a genuine Corolla with the genuine reliability, if you still have a choice.

Good thing about Prizm is that it is less expensive than a Corolla.

Most of the answers were right--it is basically a Toyota with a Chevy emblem on it. Very reliable car if you keep up on the basic maintenance. One thing I have seen is the inside door handles you pull to open the doors, they are made of plastic and they like to break. Easily replaced though. And if you need to replace a part, say a thermostat or radiator cap, get a price from Chevy and a price from Toyota (say it's a 2001 Toyota Corolla LS 4-dr) and I'll bet Toyota is cheaper! Same with brake parts. I work for Chevy and drive a Toyota.
