If you listen to the end of the song, the female sings:
"I know the territory - I've been around
It'll all turn to dust and we'll all fall down
And sooner or later, you'll be screwing around."
After which, he says "I won't do that."
He's saying that he won't leave her to move on to some other girl. He loves her too much to do something like that.
A lot of people seem to interpret it as him saying he won't cheat on her, but from the bit of the lyrics at the end, it sounds more like it's about him not leaving her for another woman. Basically, he won't dump her for the woman down the street.

I have a brother with a ridiculously long attention span... or something. Oh my god I heard so MUCH of this song! Non-stop for hours... over years and years! And he used to sing too - aaaaah!!
