I seriously don't know and have quite an issue with word/phrase.
I don't live a "lifestyle," I live a life.
I'm a mother, a life partner, a business owner, a community volunteer, a friend.
I support local businesses, attend local festivals and events, utilize local services.
I don't wear "gay" clothes, drive a "gay" car, live in a "gay" house, decorate with "gay" furnishings, eat "gay" food.
I live, work, love and pay my taxes...which are NOT GAY TAXES!
I live a LIFE..not a LIFESTYLE

There's a book, I follow it to the T actually. I wear my hair in the signature femme lesbian hairstyle (if you are wondering what it is, check the book) and I wear only lesbian clothes, and drive the typical Gay car...
Please know this changes so get the latest volume of the book, AND, for the correct Country.

It's a stereotypical "lifestyle" that homophobes seem to think that we adhere to.
It basically assumes that all gay guys enjoy clubbing, sex in toilets and with as many guys as possible. I'm sure that there's probably the idea that we all have AIDS in there somewhere to.
What gets me is I had to have MY lifestyle explained (ie:dictated) to ME by some religious hick from the US.

There are many kinds of gay. 1) Happy kind of gay (I love this type) 2) Girly kind of gay (Interesting) 3) When a boy wears too much makeover is called as "gay" (But I think this should not be labelled as "gay" though) 4) When a guy have *** with another guy is also "GAY" (Only this should be called as "gay" in my opinion.) But I hate guys who rush to labell a person as "gay" or "emo" just to tease/bash him, without proper evidence. This is what retarded americans do, and I really hate it. Hope this detailed answer helps!

I was wondering about the same thing myself...I guess I follow a "gay lifestyle" when I go to university and learn about IT, then come back home and relax with my boyfriend while we talk about the new boeing 787 and its specifications, the new MAC or which car we think is the best...As people said already, the conservatives and homophobes seem to know us better than we know ourselves.

It's a fantasy, based on lies and "blackface"-type stereotypes, invented as a means of demeaning and belittling gays and lesbians. Doubtless because it helps generate cash for millionaire preachers and their multimillion-dollar political machines by scaring people into believing that their way of life is under attack. I saw one particularly clever individual refer to it as the "homosexual deathstyle".
The same religious groups and individuals have employed the same tactics against a series of scapegoats and invented enemies- including blacks, Native Americans, Jews, Irish, and more recently, gays, immigrants and Muslims. And just as they did then, they claim that it's out of "love", even as they attack our families and deny us the same financial and legal protections that they enjoy.
PS- wickey wow wow- apparently, I must have read the Lesbian section of the "Gay Lifestyle" book by mistake, because I drive a Chevy Blazer 4x4, have my hair buzzed short, wear men's clothing, and know how to do basic plumbing and electrical repairs.

You would have to ask the ignorant bigots who use the phrase.
Although we can and do joke about it (LOVE your answer Wickey!) it really is ignorant and demeaning to how gay people live and love to be deemed a "lifestyle".

There is no such thing. Describing your Gift from God as a "lifestyle" is just a way the bigots have of demeaning you. Ignore them, you are as God made you to be.

The religous right made it up, they make up all sorts of things to justify their arrogant bigotry. You don't have a lifestyle, youhave a life.
