I know I've asked this.

I've met plenty of people from the so-called Southern states. My list:

The best:
1. Texas: unequivocally the best; there are some people who whine about it because of all its TX pride, but it's a GREAT, friendly place!
2. Oklahoma: its people have impressed me, plus my dad loves going there!
3. Georgia: I thought I would hate GA, but I wound up loving it (especially ATL), nice natives
4. Mississippi: warm, genteel, laid-back people. I'd retire there...in 50 years, but for now it's great to visit
5. Tennessee: Love west and middle TN, but didn't find east TN friendly

Okay:
6. Louisiana
7. West Virginia

The worst:
8. Alabama: 60-70% of the Alabamians I've met have been unfriendly or jerks, but Mobile IS friendly
9 (tie). Kentucky, Arkansas: both like Ala., but with even more rednecks. I live in KY, plan to leave for good in 2008!
11. Virginia: no longer truly South
12. Florida: has become NY South

Still don't know about NC or SC.

Yes, Kentucky is worse than AL and Mobile is a great city.

I vote Texas as a really great state.

South carolina of course!! Oh, and West Virginia is a Damnyankee state cause they broke away from Virginny in the War of Northern Agression!!! And Kentucky may have been neutral? But it went Damnyankee too by over 70% of the people who volunteered for one side or the other....

My vote would go to Oklahoma because that is my home state. Although I live in Arkansas right now, (about 1 mile from the Okla state line), I can tell the difference in the attitudes of the people.

As a Texan, I will agree with your placement of our proud State and our friendly residents at #1.

However, I am ethically bound to disagree with your evaluation of Oklahoma as second friendliest, although I am happy to refer to them as "Number 2".
