Our borders have been wide open since 9/11. The terrorists are suicidal, so fear of dying in the attempt to get into the U.S., with or without weapons, dirty bombs, nukes, etc., would not be a factor.

I would like to think that all the "chatter" in the intelligence community is valid as quite a few terrorists plots at home and abroad have been thwarted.

I believe that the awareness in the intelligence community is probably more heightened since 9/11 and that missions abroad have perhaps temporarily cut off cash and supply lines that lead to such attacks.

That is what I would HOPE is going on...although I am just an IT hack and not a CIA or FBI guy. So what do I know! LOL!

When you get the answer to that question let the rest of us know ok.
Because your right the borders are wide open it has been too quiet for the past five years I feel the country has gotten very complacent with being aware of there surroundings and because of all the visible law enforcement we see in high profile areas like airports, subways etc, that maybe be why they are going to hit something real soft that we are not expecting to be hit and than guess what we will all wake up again because it always takes a major tragedy for this country to wake up again and realize this is still going on and a major threat to our country and way of life.

One of the problems now is leadership. With Osama Bin Laden dead or forced into hiding, he more than likely has not been able to plan something as large. The "cell" system is both a strength and weakness. While it makes them less likely to get caught, it doesn't give a strong communication channel between the head and the members.

Still, I'm a bit suprised myself. I would have expected something else since then... even if Al Quida is currently busy in Iraq.

Terrorist groups don't organize large-scale attacks frequently. It often takes many years. It's not necessarily the case that we are "safe" now.

We've gotten lucky and caught them a few times. There will be another attack that gets through, it's only a matter of time.

Like the US gov't, the terrorists only have limited resources. So far, they've been hard-pressed in Iraq and they have chosen to use their resources there.

However if we cut-and-run soon, they'll be freed up to do more operations in the US and Europe.

You mean a big terrorist attack, or a nutjob with a personal arsenal who walks into a school... because those are attacks as well.

Because they don't have to. That's what terrorism means. To cause terror. They don't need to attack to make you expect more attacks, and wonder why there aren't any. Been through airport security lately?
