That's a question for the ages. Many would say that Walter Payton is the best of all time, others would say that Jim Brown is the best all-time RB, some would go current and say Ladainian Tomlinson deserves the title. No one can tell for sure since there have been so many equally deserving contenders. The position of Runningback is an opinion. To narrow the choices, I've attached a link.

The great Walter Payton...hands down. No one fought harder for every hard he gained. No one so often chose to put their head down into their opponents chest instead of going out of bounds. He ran behind a mediocre offensive line and played in an offense with an atrocious passing game (some things never change) and actually led the Bears in receptions a few seasons. The only other running back to have moves close to Sweetness would be Barry Sanders.

The best I'VE had the privileged to watch was Barry Sanders, because Jim Brown, O.J and Earl Campbell were before my time. Also, when I first started watching the NFL, Walter Peyton was at the very end of his career, so unfortunately I didn't get to see him much either. But based on the highlight films and the stats Jim Brown racked up in 9 seasons, I'd have to give it to him.

I'm from Chicago and love Payton but I seriously think Tomlinson is the best ever. He's on pace to be the all time leader in rushing yardage and TD's. And he's the best RB ever as a pass receiver - he caught 100 passes a few years ago.

Barry Sanders was always my favorite to watch. He was unbelievable. The stuff he would do was just jaw dropping. Had he kept playing and not retired so early he would have broken all kinds of records. A close second would be Walter Payton. One of the future greats is LaDainian Tomlinson and we should all enjoy the time that we have to watch him play. He is electrifying and once he is gone we are all gonna wish we could still watch him play.

That is a hard question to answer, but in my opinion I would have to say either OJ Simpson or Jim Brown... Those two guys have the most natural looking running styles I have ever seen, no one has had the combination of speed, size, and power these guys had, ever.... After OJ/Jim Brown I would say
2nd. Barry Sanders
3rd. Walter Payton
4th.Earl Campbell
5th.Eric Dickerson

I have to go with Barry Sanders. If he was on a team that was a winner and played more years like he could have, I don't even think there would be a disscusion about this.
