I think in the AL it is Joe Torre and in the NL it is Tony La Russa. What do you think and why?

I think all managers in general get way too much credit. Basically all they do is write the lineup order (which doesn't matter anywhere near as much as people like to think it does), and make bullpen calls. It's not like a manager has anything to do with whether or not his players actually hit and pitch well. It's all about the players talent in the end. I'd say the only real job a manager has is managing egos.

But in terms of who is the most overrated in both leagues; well, I like your picks alot, but I'll offer up two others:

AL- Ozzie Guillen- I don't think he's ever heard of the term OBP, he thinks guys like Podsednik, and Erstad are awesome baseball players, he'd rather bunt than hit a homer, and he says some the dumbest crap you could imagine. Yet people think he's an amazing manager because he still uses the hit run and sac bunt.

NL- Lou Piniella- Career winning percentage of .517 and people talk about him like he's Connie Mack. He's another guy who could stand to modernize his approach to the game. Not to mention that he acts like a moron half the time.

I agree with you on Joe Torre. Joe has seen better days at the bench and should consider retiring this year. If the Yankees get off to a bad 2nd half start, he may be fired.

Lou Pinella with the Cubbies. He's as overrated as they come. He may know the game of baseball but what did he do since his glory days with the Mariners? Not much. The teams he had with the DRays stunk as well as the Cubbies.

As much as I love the Yankees, I agree with Torre. He has a team that basically can coach itself, with assistants like Larry Boa, Tony Pena, Lee Mazzilli, etc...He just has to write the lineup card.

In the NL, I do not agree with LaRussa. He took a team that had minimal talent last year, and won the world series. I believe the most overrated manager is Lou Pinella. I like him, but he gets too much press.

I agree about Torre, he has alot of the same people and just isn't getting the wins, but because it's the Yankees, and the media is mostly from NY and just because he had alot of good seasons they ignore that.

La Russa, is still a good coach and also of course has alot of seasons under his belt too. His team atill just won the World Series last year, I don't agree with that one. He still has a good team and is apparently an effective manager.

I would agree on your AL choice.
I really don't know enough NL managers to select one, but I don't believe that La Russa is overrated. He does a lot with considerably less.

Bobby Cox, overall and to me, is the best manager, year in and year out.

Hope he goes to the hall of fame.

Phil Jackson only could win when he had Jordan and Pippen and Shaq and Kobie. Joe Torre only wins with the big studs and not when he doesn't have all the talent so Torre is the right answer.

Bobby Cox, he could win with all the pitching he had in the past, but with Tom Glavine, & Greg Maddux gone and John Smoltz getting old, the winning has been alot harder. Also Leo Mazzone the best ptiching coach in the big leagues is gone also. The Braves should have kept him at any cost.

I think your crazy if you think it's Tony LaRussa. He took a mediocre team and made them into a World Championship team missing key parts of their lineup. Anyways, it's got to be Lou Pinella

I totally agree with you. LaRussa proved it last night, and as for Torre, his team is started off worse than they ever have this year.
