I've never been to OK, NC, or SC, but I've been to all the other so-called Southern states. I've also met my share of people from most of them. So, my list is as follows:
The best:
1. Texas: unequivocally the best; there are some stupid people who whine about it because of all the TX pride, but it's a GREAT place!
2. Oklahoma: its people have impressed me, plus my dad loves taking trips there!
3. Georgia: I thought I would hate GA, but I wound up loving it (especially ATL)
4. Mississippi: warm, genteel, laid-back people. I'd retire there...in 50 years, though, but for now it's great to visit
5. Tennessee: Nashville and Memphis rock!
Okay:
6. Louisiana
7. West Virginia
The worst:
8. Alabama: 60-70% of the Alabamians I've met have been complete d**ks. No offense to the few nice people there
9 (tie). Kentucky, Arkansas: both like AL, but with more (and meaner) rednecks
11. Virginia: DC transplants
12. Florida: NY/NJ transplants
I still don't know about NC or SC.

gypsy g: Hmmmm...maybe it's because of all the yankee transplants you have moving down. The native Georgians (or even long time residents) I've met were nice and down-to-earth. Maybe I need to spend more than a few days each time I'm there to get a better feel for GA.

johnboy6073: I stand corrected...partially. I've been to Mobile, and I do remember dock workers in the harbor waving at us as we rode past them on the tour boat. However, anywhere from Lowndes/Montgomery Counties northward still sucks.
