Moore was nearly speechless as Gupta(spelling?) rattled off fact after fact that entirely disproved everything Moore was trying to spew in 'Sicko' .

To Conservatives - What do you think about those facts and the fine job Gupta did ?

To Liberals - How does that make you 'feel' ?

It was a typical Moore moment.
Anyone who disagrees with him is wrong and stupid and in bed with big government.

Moore and Gore are alike in this respect they declare the debate over and anyone who dares to disagree is a traitor or worse.

When CNN presents things to question Moore tells me that Moore is a bit too much out there.

Actually, they really didn't disagree that much. Dr. Gupta stated a bunch of facts that Moore actually stated himself in the film (Cuba, is 39th in health care, we are 37th, etc.). He actually made it sound like a good thing that we are basically the same as Cuba even though we spend significantly more for our health care. They both agreed our system sucked for you cons out there.

He did make a claim that Moore fudged facts, although I'd be curious for anyone here to dispute a fact given in the film. Gupta stated some things such as how Americans actually live longer than Cubans, although the fact is that Cubans actually live slightly longer.

The doctor simply added that there were also some issues with universal systems as well, which is a fair statement. We could have universal health care but create a system that irons out some of the kinks found elsewhere.

Aside from his loose facts and "socialistic" agenda, Moore shows us how easily the media can take information, spin it into "facts," and manipulate the general public.

Dr. Gupta has credibility, given that he's a doctor; however, his "objectivity" is somewhat compromised, since he is a television personality. From what I gathered from the interview, Gupta seems more even-handed than the impassioned Moore.

Understand that Moore is polemic; he advocates a radical viewpoint in order to bring attention to sensitive, political issues. Anne Coulter does the same thing but much more venomously than Moore. Each skews the "facts" in favor of their point of view.

In light of his reputation, Moore's saving grace is that he has the courage to speak his mind and raise awareness.

By the way, I'm not sure if this was addressed, but Michael Moore is from Davison, Michigan, which is near Flint.

I didn't see all of that, but when I tuned in, Gupta was apologizing for an error he himself made in his argument with Moore. Gupta may be a medical Dr. but he is primarily on CNN and apparently not a full time practicing physician.
Most people just want to know the truth. Whether it comes from a democrat or a republican is beside the point.

I guess to me from all I see you have a doctor who the left of CNN seems to respect enough to pay him to give their medical commentaries and his medical career is highly praised. But how does the "smartest woman" in the world as she was praised by some in Congress when she advanced plans for the Clinton Health Plan pick someone not qualified. Yes Hillary Clinton used Gupta as one of her 15 medical advisers. I guess either you trust Hillary or Michael Moore. Now even though I am not a fan of Hillary I know she knows more than Michael Moore ever will on health care and in fact she probably has forgotten more than he knows in total. Again Michael you completed a lying propaganda film that has no truths to it as it is just designed to line your pockets and your fat belly.

Great, it is about time somebody showed people what a fool he really is. Some people are so blind they follow Moore and believe everything he "documents" without question. When will they realize he is a glorified movie director and his agenda is to sell movies. To that end, he is not above using any propaganda he can and twisting facts to make people believe his garbage. And yet many people do. This is why he is rich and laughing all the way to the bank. Wake up people.

I watched the interview carefully. I actually thought Moore handled himself pretty well. What I do think is funny, Moore is mad at CNN for missing or fudging a few facts? He didn't want to continue the interview with Wolf Blitzer because he was afraid of the their editing process? He knows his own methods too well!

What I know of my own experience and the experience of my friends and relative tells me more than Moore and Gupta and all the pundits in any channel on TV or radio.
Filling cans with coins so kids can get prosthetic legs when they grow tells me lots.
Seeing cancer survivors sell their homes to pay for treatment when they have insurance.
That tells me a few things too.
Waiting for surgery while they take the time to approve or disapprove, not being able to choose out-of-network providers, making choices of hospitals based on what my insurance takes as opposed to where the best work is done, this has happened to me.
Its probably happened to lots of people here, it will happen to even more in the future, we really didn't need Moore to tell us something is very wrong with the system or that insurance companies are more interested in keeping your money than your health, we already knew that.
I'm sure there are people who sail through the system with never a care, but there are too many who don't. Ordinary people, working people, people with insurance. A Panglossian view of the system is based on ignorance or the ability to wear blinders.
I didn't need Moore, and I sure don't need Gupta, all I have to to is talk to the people in the hospital waiting room.

I don't need Moore or Gupta to tell me that the system here SUCKS.
BTW Michael Moore was born in Flint MI in 1954 ( he is not Canadian)
Gupta did a fact check which got some things wrong
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bestoftv/2007/07/11/lkl.gupta.moore.cnn
He has since corrected that and in a lot of the instances, he agrees with Moore especially on the point that for the supposedly #1 nation in the world, this country should be doing much better.
Be that as it may I can understand why Moore highlights what he does because I know what it is like not to be covered and to wonder how, if my son becomes ill, would a visit to the emergency room be paid. Forget about me. It happened and a 4 hour stay in the pediatric emergency room cost $1,029 and that was in 2004.
For a person like me whose company does not provide insurance and I have a child, if I want low insurance payments, I have to have an astronomical deductible which defeats the purpose of having insurance. Wellness checkups for him are part of the deductible and having to pay $175.00/ visit, if he is ill and needs to see his pediatrician is tough.
If you want a low decutible, you have to pay through the nose for insurance. So in my case for my son and myself, my monthly payments are $480.00/mth and that's carrying a $1,500 deductible. If I had wanted a lower payment of say $280.00 I would have to carry a deductible of $2,500 and forget a pregnancy rider, which is an additional cost of 180.00/mth so all told my monthly payments just in case I get pregnant ( although i am not planning to at this moment) would be $660.00/mth which is 1/2 of what i pay in rent and it would make sense for a woman to carry the rider if she is of child bearing age because private insurance companies will NOT cover visits to an OB or for delivery whether by midwife or OB in a hospital or home setting IF you don't have the rider. From my own experience, when I gave birth at the hospital in 2003, that 48 hour stay was to the tune of $15,500.00. At least at that time I had insurance but I had watched my premium go from $180.00/mth Feb 2003 to $680.00/mth by Aug 2003
It is sad that for supposedly the most powerful industrial nation in the world, we rank 37th in terms of healthcare. Compare that to a 3rd world country on which we have had a 47 year embargo blocking medicines etc, and that country ranked 39th.
I see people that because of one illness either, watch their insurance premium go up by 300% in 1 year ( it happened to my aunt and her husband) or go without because they don't qualify for Medicare and have too much income to qualify for Medicaid, or have no insurance and because they have to pay out of pocket end up falling behind on bills and lose their homes. They cannot file for bankruptcy help to keep the roof over their heads thanks to the revamped bankruptcy laws which were written in favor of the credit card companies, cannot get health insurance because of pre-existing conditions.
I see older people having to make a decision on whether or not they can afford to eat because to get a months supply of 1 medication even with Medicare part D, still costs them $80, and watch them have to decide if they can afford to eat. The pathetic thing is that this is become more and more the rule not the exceptions.
Edited to add:
to Daddy Shawa- the website for the World Health Organization- the group that put together the list
