BEIJING, July 10 — China executed its former top food and drug regulator on Tuesday for taking bribes to approve untested medicine, as the Beijing leadership scrambled to show that it was serious about improving the safety of Chinese products.
.....
But Mr. Zheng’s case appears to have served a political purpose, allowing senior leaders to show that they have begun confronting the country’s poor product-safety record. Shoddy or dangerous goods, including drugs, pet food and car tires, have damaged its reputation abroad, especially in the United States.

I am not particularly keen on death penalty.
What happened 100 years ago does not matter.
CHINA undeveloped.?
They developed enought to sponser OLYMPICS.
They developed enough to destroy satellites in orbit.
They developed enough to have their own space program.
They developed enough to sell us a trillion dollars worth of crap.
They developed enough to have their own nukes.

What do I find GROTESQUE?

Fo' shizzle. But you're probably supporting them whenever you buy anything. If you're so adamant about this, STOP BUYING THINGS MADE IN CHINA! I know it sounds impossible, but those products not made in China are out there. You just have to look. They're usually a little more expensive, but not much (The worst I've seen is $.50).

What, exactly, do you find grotesque? Is it the notion of capital punishment? What does that have to do with money grubbing?

The Chinese appear to be intolerant of people who commit crimes. I'm not in support of Capital Punishment, so it offends me on that level...but I am glad that action was taken to stop the corruption in their Food and Drug Administration.

all you people are dumbasses. it isn't easy finding american products so good luck with that. and i bet after a week or two, you're going to be dying cuz you can't find a tv that is made in america.

it is also the FDA's fault on this. if it wasn't for their shitty inspections, we would have no problem

so your claim would be that no sane American (?) ever sold shoddy or dangerous products because he was greedy??

and where did the phrase 'snake oil salesman' come from?

sure -- my example came from when America was an underdeveloped country. There are others from the Great Depression era.

China is an underdeveloped country now.

I wish they would do that to some of the people in the U.S. pharmaceutical companies who have withheld info from the FDA about patient complications.
