I am an avid cinefile and just find these movies to be painful unmagical, awkward, contrived, but yet they keep making them and people seem to like them? Am I wrong about this one? Is there anyone out there who did not read the books but still liked the fims? I enjoyed the 7 Chronicles of Narnia books by CS Lewis yet hated the recent film adaptation....

I watch a film like "Pan's Labyrinth" which is truly intriguing and magical and poignant and scratch my head? Now this is a fantasy film.....your thoughts?

chocolahoma: no I did not like the terrible "Spy Kids", "Agent Cody Banks", or "Bridge to Terabithia" but i do love children's book .....Phillip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" is being made into a film - I am hoping it won't suck too much!

You must remember that movies and books are very different. I love both the Potter books and the films, but acknowledge there is a lot missing from the films. I can't wait to see Order Of The Phoenix today. The books are wonderful, and I really enjoy the films.

But, the films aren't for everyone. I feel the four directors of the five films have done a wonderful job so far. But, when it comes to books, you have your own imagination, and can create your own film in your head. And you aren't constrained to time limits or budgets the way Hollywood directors are.

I'm sorry you don't like the films. But the great things about that is, no one is forcing you to go see them.

Pan's Labrynth was not a "Childrens' Fantasy", was it?

If you're not a fan of Potter and you're not a fan of Narnia, then its just entirely possible that you simply aren't "into" childrens' literature.

Did you like "Spy Kids", "Agent Cody Banks", or "Bridge to Terabithia"?

Well, the films leave much to be desired, but never the less give you a somewhat stimulating visual of the books. The books are NOTHING LIKE the movies though, sooo much better!!

It's OK that you don't like it. Not everyone has to like Harry Potter. Just go on your way and watch the movies that you like and soon Harry Potter will be over.

You'd have to read the books... otherwise you might not have any imagination or could possibly have completly lost the entire "child at heart" idea.
