Maybe if states were given a little more rights back our country could unite on the issues we do agree on. Red states can have free guns handed out at school and blue states can have free healthcare.

The federal government does not have the power and authority that Bush claims it does. It is the fault of the people that he has done what he has done. He has overstepped the bounds of his own authority, and we've allowed it to happen. He is not Constitutionally entitled to do many of the things he's done under the guise of "executive privilege." No President of the United States has ever abused his authority the way George W. Bush has.

Chimpy my boy, you are starting to sound like a conservative. That is exactly to point. The constitution states exactly what powers the federal government has PERIOD!
Is specifically says all other power belongs to the states and the people respectively.

The beauty of the system is that if you don't like something your state is doing and you cannot succeed in convincing enough people to agree with you, you can always move to another state. But if the federal government does something you don't like where can you go?

That was the way abortion was before the stacked supreme court decided that when the founders said that we have the right to be secure in our homes and our papers that they really meant abortion was OK. Some states had it, some states did not. Some states limited it to various states of fetal development some did not. The the Supremes came along and shoved it down every body's throat.

States rights are being overridden every day. It has got to stop.

Yes - but the whole states rights issue is a GOP theocon method to push their own agenda. It's a way they hope to return prayer to school, get vouchers, stop a womans right to choose, stop same sex marriage, and generally overturn all the progress we've made for the last 50 years.

I agree we should more connected to the local legislature.

The states do implement health care policies, but I don't think they can financially cover every resident unfortunately. In PA we have the CHIP program that covers every child regardless of what the parent's income.

They have way to much power. But then again they want a communist state so the easiest way to do that is slowly eliminate the individual state freedom.

I think the people need to take their power back. Apathy is the ruin of any democracy.
